Adopt-A-School and Leverage your Funds!

The Wasrag partnership with Africare, H2O for Life, and Procter & Gamble to provide full water, sanitation, and hygiene education to 30 schools is moving ahead well. There are still six schools in Malawi needing funding (and two needing partial funding) and two schools in Tanzania. Every Rotary Club $1, will be matched by $4.26 by our partners. PEP page on Rotary.org!

The Rotary Foundation (TRF) is pleased to announce there is now a PEP (Project Enhancement Process) page on Rotary.org.  The page includes links to many PEP resources including the FAQ document, PPP Team Request Form, and PEP webinar recording. It also includes a link to the first technical guide on the Wasrag site.

PEP is being piloted by TRF and Wasrag in selected Future Vision districts this Rotary year.

 

 



Project Opportunity: Uganda

Under the umbrella of Uganda Rotary Water Plus (UGRW) local clubs in Uganda, working closely with the host community, with other NGOs and the local water authority, are identifying many WASH projects which will qualify for support from The Rotary Foundation. Uganda is in D-9200, a Future Vision Pilot district that qualifies for Global Grants under the recent pilot PEP initiative announced by TRF.

TRF in Peru: Bio-Sand Filters Help Children    

The water looked clean, but the children were sick. Testing revealed unacceptable levels of cadmium, copper, lead, zinc and arsenic. Bio-sand filters together with training from local women have provided a solution. Watch this amazing story:   http://vimeo.com/33735494



Amazing Story of What a Letter Can Start

In Sweden an inventive Rotarian has created a tablet and telephone "App" to make applying for an ESTA authorization and approval number an easy process. Nationals of 36 countries are required to have this authorization and approval before being allowed to board an aircraft or cruise to the USA. 

The bonus is that 30% of the proceeds from sale of the App will go to support Swedish Rotary Club water & sanitation projects.  Read More...



Sudan_child Symposium: Addis Ababa April 9 - 11

"Monitoring Sustainable WASH Service Delivery" is the topic of the symposium sponsored by IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre in partnership with The Ministry of Water and Energy of the Government of Ethiopia and Water and Sanitation for Africa (WSA). "Monitoring is in the spotlight-and rightfully so! Monitoring is crucial for sustaining WASH services and protecting infrastructure investments. Monitoring is needed at different levels, by different stakeholders, for different purposes and with different means." Read more...

Wasrag's fifth World Water Summit will be held in Lisbon, immediately before the International Rotary Convention. Plans this year include a Project Fair.  More details will be posted shortly!

The Water & Sanitation Rotarian Action Group is a group of Rotarians whose purpose is to support Rotary clubs to effectively plan, finance, implement, monitor and evaluate water, sanitation, and hygiene programs, where they are most needed in a collaborative, cost-effective, timely, and sustainable manner, true to the principles of Rotary International. Wasrag operates in accordance with Rotary International policy but is not an agency of, or controlled by, Rotary International.
