A crisis forces us to think about what we need to do as well as what we can do.  If we respond openly to the crisis, we can come to a clearer perception of where we are and who we are.  In short, a crisis forces us to wake up and 'get real'.  The crisis shakes up our conceptions of our self and the world we live in.  You could say that the universe is making us aware that some of our conceptions are not true any more and that we need to let them go and create new ones, in other words, our reality is in need of an upgrade.

This 'upgrade' occurs in our imagination as much as it does in a factual analysis of our circumstances.  As we imagine the possibilities for our future, our intuition comes into play.  If we have not previously given much space or credence to our intuition, we are likely to experience a high level of fear and anxiety as we review the 'facts' of our situation. Our body needs a vision to inspire it and to give its energy a focus.  That vision comes from our imagination in concert with our intuition.  Without that vision the body experiences fear.

By being open to our intuition we will, either abruptly or gradually, experience the emergence of an awareness of a direction to go in.  This awareness might be a feeling, or a picture, or a knowing.  Whatever form it takes this new awareness will start to change our reality from the inside, we will be come 'in-formed' by it.  This change in our field of consciousness, or space, then changes the way we perceive and interact with the world around us.  The important thing is, whatever the facts of our situation and however challenging they might be, if we embrace this new awareness and align our energies with it we will be empowered. On the other hand, if we refuse to acknowledge what our intuition is communicating to us we will find ourselves experiencing increasing levels of stress, anxiety and fear.

The value of meditation in times of crisis is immense.  As much as we need to be aware of the facts of our physical reality, we also need to balance that with times when we focus our attention on our inner, spiritual reality.  Meditation opens the door to the vastness of our being, and it is through this experience that we gain an increasingly strong sense of self which is not defined or limited by the kind of thinking the crisis has exposed to be bankrupt and false.
