The goal of Get Your PHX is to show up, en masse, to support those who pioneer new restaurants, stores, bars and event spaces. We want to provide them a boost as they put their sweat, tears and wealth on the line to make life great downtown. Plus, we want to provide a chance for you to meet others like you, who want to get the most out of Phoenix.
Special thanks to Lalo Cota, Pablo Luna and Breeze Marcus of Por Vida Gallery, Douglas Miles of =Apaceria= and the ever-wonderful Silvana Esparza of Barrio Cafe, who provided incredible food on short notice for our March Get Your PHX.
Please support Por Vida and Barrio. They are doing an incredible job on 16th St and we should support those who support our community!
On to the treats and sweets! In April we are going to swing back over to 15th Ave and Grand where Amanda and Corrianne Sizemore are launching the permanent Treehouse Bakery.
I say "permanent" because Amanda and Corrianne have been baking vegan goodies primarily for special orders and the Public Market events without a permanent location. But, the demand has grown to the point where they needed their own shop --primarily because their goodies actually taste, er, good! Unlike many vegan recipes, these baked goods stand up to the test.
Amanda and Corrianne started about two years ago when Corrianne just started baking for a vegan friend of hers. Before she knew it, she was filling special orders. In about nine months, they were selling to the public. But after pulling all nighters baking in a rent-a-kitchen due to high demand, it was time to expand.
That's "expand", with an "e" in a recession, with an "r".
The founders of Treehouse just wanted to create options for people in Phoenix. So, now they just want to create a neighborhood sweet spot.
For those of you know know how My Florist Bakery got a start on 7th and McDowell in 2001 this kind of development will be a very positive thing for Grand Ave.
So, please come celebrate. This is what Get Your PHX is about. Support those who are taking a chance in downtown!
