January Get Your PHX:
Our 3rd Year Anniversary at the Oasis on Grand

Oasis on Grand

The goal of Get Your PHX is to show up, en masse, to support those who pioneer new restaurants, stores, bars and event spaces. We want to provide them a boost as they put their sweat, tears and wealth on the line to make life great downtown. Plus, we want to provide a chance for you to meet others like you, who want to get the most out of Phoenix.

In case you are new to the Get Your PHX events, you should know that THIS MONTH IS OUR THIRD YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

For three years we have been supporting locally owned businesses in Central Phoenix. We created Arizona's first all-locally-owned open air Christmas market.

Come celebrate with us at the January Get Your PHX hosted by the Oasis on Grand, sponsored by Bob Schneider of State Farm Insurance.

 Car

You probably know Bob's cool 1950's car from outside Portlands.

The Oasis on Grand is a unique, mid century hotel that is now an apartment community tailored for downtown dwellers and artists. The development of the Oasis on Grand marks a milestone in the future progress of Grand Avenue as a destination in downtown.

Help us make a statement in support of locally owned businesses and in support of positive arts development on Grand Avenue!

This month will also feature a book signing of "Downtown Phoenix", by local authors J. Seth Anderson, Suad Mahmuljin , Jim McPherson. Plus, we will have new renderings and plans for the (hopeful) trolly on Grand, supported by Robert Graham. Oh, and food, wine, etc.

Please join us!

Keep an eye on our Facebook Fan Page for updates. As you know, there are always surprises.

Phoestivus Was a Success, Ten-Fold

Phoestivus 2011 Zoom

There were four goals for the Phoestivus Market:

1) Build a new holiday tradition that supports locally-owned businesses in Phoenix.

2) Support the Phoenix Public Market.

3) Support our sponsors.

4) Have a blast.

We did all four.

People are already looking forward to continuing the tradition and we are already thinking about next year.

On December 14th, Public Market director Cindy Gentry reported that we had 88 total vendors (including food trucks) and gross receipts over $13,000. On December 21st we generated over $18,000.

The Market is a nonprofit organization. It's usual gross average on a Wednesday is about $2,500 --we increased its draw by over ten-fold!!

THIS is how we get out of the recession! Hard work, creativity and optimism.

Our sponsors were amazing: La Piccola Cucina, The Film Bar, The Lincoln Family Downtown YMCA, Local First Arizona, Downtown Phoenix Journal, Oasis on Grand, Phoenix Community Alliance, Downtown Phoenix Partnership, New Times, Roosevelt Row and Yelp.

Our food truck friends were incredible: Short Leash Hotdogs, Beat Street, Emerson Fry Bread, Hey Joe Filipino Street Food, Jamburittos, Mojo Bowl, Torched Goodness and Mama Toledo's Pies.

Please continue to support all of these fine folks!

Here are the Market Headlines:

  • Except above $800,000, sales prices in $/SF are now higher than a year ago.
  • Inventory is falling again for all price ranges.
  • Above $400,000 demand remains relatively weak.
  • Lender-owned inventory is still falling and REOs are losing market share in sales.
  • Active short sales are fewer in number, with normal listings gaining market share.

Energize Phoenix

This time of year means a lot of energy consumption. Between all of the electronic games you give your kids and Christmas decorations, there will be spikes in energy bills across the city.

But one organization is here to help.

 Getting Short Sales Closed

The average days that a house sits on the market is actually going down dramatically this year. That tells you that people are making offers faster and short selling banks are getting answers quicker than last year. Check out my post about using smartphones to sell your home to learn more about the image, below.
