Get Your PHX at Bliss/reBAR

Bliss/Rebar

The goal of Get Your PHX is to show up, en masse, to support those who pioneer new restaurants, stores, bars and event spaces. We want to provide them a boost as they put their sweat, tears and wealth on the line to make life great downtown. Plus, we want to provide a chance for you to meet others like you, who want to get the most out of Phoenix.

Thanks to Cary and Monica Heizenrader at MacAlpine's Soda Fountain for hosting August's Get Your PHX. A great time was had, all around. The wait staff was clad in the latest 1940s attire and we all had a blast! Thanks also to Rob Melikian author of Vanishing Phoenix, for being on hand to share a little background on our history here in the desert.

This month we are being copy cats, and we admit it. Our friends at Radiate Phoenix last week hosted their event at Bliss and reBAR, the new incarnation of what has been several restaurants and bars. But we are so convinced that this corner needs our attention that we really want to give it some extra focus.

The corner of 4th and Roosevelt is like a lily pad that connects the eastern part of 7th to Central and Roosevelt, from a pedestrian perspective.  Further, these are such very cool buildings, with the massive rebar tree/bar structure and the massive Buddha head.

It helps that the new owners come with lots of experience. Mark Howard, part owner of Fez brings Fez's executive chef John Cook along. They have created what another part owner, Jackson Kelly, told me is best described as a menu of "American Comfort Classics".

We will get together in reBAR, where Jackson has promised free appetizers and drink specials for Get Your PHX participants.

The slightly cooler evening weather in late September will help us welcome in the wondrous Phoenix autumn nights.

September Get Your PHX

A Little Note of Gratitude

As I regroup and refocus after the August primary election I've had a chance to review where I am and where I came from.

When I started the campaign almost a year ago, I thought I knew a lot of folks in CenPho. But over 7,000 doors knocked and countless events, phone calls, coffees and fundraisers showed me that there were so many more great people (and great stories) to know.

I am even more resolved that CenPho has a great future. I am even more convinced that we need redistricting reform in our legislature (CR Archive, "Suggested Reform 3.1 and 3.2).

But I am even more grateful. I am grateful for the experience that I've had, even in loss. I am grateful in knowing that so many people are of the same mind that Arizona and Phoenix has a positive future, despite the demagoguery and bomb throwing at the Legislature. I am grateful that I got the chance to serve when I did and the opportunity to have your support.

I am especially grateful for the many notes of support I got after the primary was over.

I am also grateful for those of you who referred your friends and neighbors to me for help in real estate. I am grateful for every client that has trusted me with such a major decision.

And I am grateful for you, the reader. There is more to come. I don't know what it will look like and when, but we have so far yet to go.

Stay tuned.

Contradictions
I have been inundated over the last week with conflicting market news. Don't lose perspective. There is still a great reason to buy a home: because you need one.

Mortgage Lenders, Regulated
Mortgage lenders were part of the problem. Not all, but part. I'm glad to see them regulated, just like we agents are. Read more here.

Vultures are Part of the Circle of Life
This resulted in a huge debate when I posted in on Facebook. See why.

Your Interest Rate Could Have Been 12%
We all try to get the best deal that we can. But when you want to haggle over 4.5% and 4.8% interest on a loan, remember how great that really is. Check this link to see what you would have been paying for your house in 1985 at 12%.

Historic Rehab Money for You
When I bought my little 1925 bungalow in 2005, the competition for historic rehab money was so intense, I did not even try. There are so many fewer people even trying now. Don't let this opportunity pass you by if you have a historic home.

Home for Hotel Monroe
One of the most distinctive buildings in downtown may just have a future. Cross your fingers.
