Tanning in the News With all the news and tragic pictures surrounding "tanning mom" as well as the many legislative tanning bed initiatives around the country, we thought it was important to again address the subject of recreational tanning. Fortunately, due to all the press related to this truly sad story, society is beginning to realize tanning is not associated with "affluence" and beauty ... but quite the opposite. Simply put, tanning can be as addictive as alcohol and tobacco. More than 2 million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the United States each year and the numbers are rising. The American Academy of Dermatology maintains -- THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A HEALTHY TAN (or base tan). May is Melanoma Month. Help us change behaviors by bringing awareness to the real facts and dangers associated with tanning. Please be the one to bring and share the sunscreen or the shade umbrella. Sincerely, Sharon Marston President P.S. For more articles and links about these issues, "LIKE" us on Facebook. |
