Make no mistake:
Health Fairs Save Lives
February and March are busy months for high school health fairs. On Monday, February 28, we are looking forward to talking with Glenbard West students at their Live Life Well forum.
With prom season and spring break right around the corner, one of our focuses will be on the dangers of indoor tanning. The statistics are just frightening - Indoor tanning may increase a teens risk for developing melanoma by 75%.
Parents: Knowing the risk, do you allow your teen to tan?
At the health fair, we will hand-out actual stories shared by families and teens diagnosed with melanoma and their struggles. In addition, we will have sunscreen wipes for athletes to keep in their spring sports bag (donated by ITW) and free skin screenings provided by a local dermatologist.
Our goal at the end of the day is to have 500 teens sign a pledge promising to be sun safe and stay away from indoor tanning.
Risk vs. Reward - It is ultimately their choice and yours. Yet, we hope to change a few behaviors and perhaps save a few lives.
If your school, business or club would like to schedule Jack's Fund for a health fair, please contact us at info@jacksfund.org.
Together, we can make a difference,
Sharon A. Marston

We are currently recruiting Jack's Team runners for the NYC marathon Join Us!
...this marathon was truly an experience of a lifetime...I know we were all running this race for various reasons, but I, for one, loved being part of Jack's Team and finding a true purpose in my running. Melanoma truly is "a beast" and I find some comfort in channeling my energy towards something positive -- in the hopes that, one day, melanoma may not claim so many lives. I was so proud to run this race for my dad and for Jack's Fund. My family teases that I ran the entire 26.2 with a smile on my face -- grinning all the way to the finish (4:32). ~ member of 2010 Jack's Team NYC
If your name is in the lottery and you would like to run on Jack's Team, register today. If you are lucky enough to get a spot through the lottery, you will still be on Jack's Team.
If you miss getting in through the lottery, your Jack's Team registration will give you priority for one of our official Charity marathon entries.
No matter how you gain entry to the marathon, you will be making a difference in the fight against melanoma. JOIN US!

Indoor Tanning: The Issue Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a known human carcinogen and is classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as a group one carcinogen, in the same category as tobacco and tobacco smoking. It is further known that UV radiation levels in indoor tanning devices can be up to 15 times greater than what one would be exposed to outdoors. Additionally, recent studies at Wake Forest University and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston have shown that frequent tanners exhibit some of the same characteristics as other substance abusers.
