WHY IS THIS RUN FOR JACK ?
When the Glen Ellyn community lost Jack, a loving father, coach to hundreds of children and avid runner in July of 2004, it was time to put grief into action. In less than six weeks friends and family organized the first
"This Run's for Jack" 5K Run/Walk.
Jack led by example in all areas of his life - family, church, community and business. Had he survived his battle, he would have been the one leading the fight against melanoma.
Jack's Run reflects Jack's qualities of determination, tenacity, compassion, competitive spirit and sense of fun. In his memory, we honor all those whom melanoma has affected. We embrace the melanoma community and strive to offer a place of hope and healing while together we fight this deadly disease.
The 5K race is called "This Run's for Jack," but today also includes: Amy, Mike, Andy, Bob, Jill, Chris, Bill, Tim, Christopher, Therese and the countless others who have lost their lives to cancer and for the many others currently fighting and determined to beat this disease.
It is in the face of this battle, we see grace and an example of Strength, Passion and Focus that drives us to continue in this fight.
Thank you for your continued support,
Sharon Marston and the 2009 TRFJ Committee

VOLUNTEERS needed at "This Run's For Jack"
Planning for the 5k actually starts in January with committee leaders finalizing decisions and updating material throughout the spring and summer months.
We are grateful to have so many wonderful volunteer committee leaders. Without their patience and attention to detail, there would not be a "This Run's For Jack."
Please take the time to tell them this year how much you appreciate all that they do!
On race morning, over 200 volunteers gather and work their magic at registration, on the course, serving food, setting up at 5:00 am, as parking facilitators, stage mc's, etc.
If you would like to help out at the 2009 "This Run's For Jack" and join this exceptional group of people, please click below and the link will take you to a sign up form.

Jack's Marathon Team - Chicago
strength . passion . focus .
On October 11, 2009, Jack's Marathon Team joins 45,000 runners on their route through Chicago. This year, our team is the biggest yet, with 42 runners. Top fundraiser, Andy Smith, is dedicating his race to his brother-in-law and sister-in-law and has raised over $4400 for melanoma research and awareness. In Andy's words:
"I'm inspired to run because of Dave... his ability to battle this cancer and still be a pillar of strength for his family and friends makes my run like a walk in the park. I'm also dedicating this run to my sister-in-law, Alicia, who has supported and guided Dave's battle every day with her unconditional love and unwavering strength. My hope for running this race is not only to raise money to help find a cure for this disease but also to raise awareness regarding the implications of the sun, your body and cancer."
We applaud all of our Team and their efforts to raise money and awareness for melanoma. Thank you for lending your support and prayers to this special group of athletes. To donate and learn more about this year's team, click here.
Join us again at the corner of Adams and Des Plaines (across from Old St. Patricks church) to cheer on Jack's Marathon Team. If you would like to volunteer to help with Jack's marathon team, please click here.
