"Giving Thanks . . ."
In this season of Thanksgiving, we offer our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors, runners, walkers, families, doctors and volunteers who made the 2008 "This Run's For Jack" the biggest and best ever!
We welcomed 1,700 participants at the 5k and raised over $62,000 through donations, special gifts and sponsorships.
Congratulations to Jack's Marathon Teams for raising over $47,500.
In these challenging economic times, philathropic assistance in the fight against cancer is even more important.
Historically, melanoma research efforts and clinical trials have been underfunded. Your donation goes to support cutting edge research and provide education and awareness programs to people of all ages.
Please know you have made a difference in the lives of those affected by this disease.
With sincere appreciation and wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving,
Sharon Marston

A Very Special "THANK YOU" to the Volunteers!
Our success can only be attributed to the continuous dedication of our volunteers. "This Run's For Jack" requires over 150 volunteers of all ages, many returning year after year (no matter the weather or how early we ask them to show up).
Thank you to Parkview Church youth group, our mighty parking lot crew, announcers extraordinare Bill Nicholsen and Dan Purdom, the early morning setup helpers led by Don Deegan, Family Tent welcome committee, Jill and Reeny for a "rockin" warmup, Glenbard West Football members for singing the national anthem, the Course Marshalls for keeping our runners safe and, last but not least, the awesome registration group. |
Awareness and Skin Cancer Screenings
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, early detection drastically increases the cure rate for melanoma.
Thank you to Dr. Ariano and Dr. Gray for their continuous partnership over the past five years. By providing skin cancer screenings to race participants, melanoma and other skin cancers have been detected and successfully treated. We have saved lives. This year, Dr. Gray estimated that 1/3 of the people screened at the 5k required additional follow-up.
Thank you to Advocate Healthcare for providing sun safety educational materials and arranging for volunteer physicians to give free skin checks at the Chicago Marathon Health and Fitness Expo in October. After examining a number of runners and non-runners, one physician estimated that 9 out of 10 required further follow-up. |
Through the generosity of our sponsors,
100% of your donation goes to research and awareness.
