Greetings!
In San Diego, it can be easy to let the days slip quickly past us. We don't have much of a difference in seasons to mark the time of year- our children's school calendar and seasonal sports schedule can often serve as a better reminder! As easy as it is to let time fly by, never let your health take a back seat. The way you respect your body now determines how it will serve you down the road.
So, as your Fall activities are about to start, make it a goal to place your chiropractic care as a priority. After all, getting regular spinal adjustments help to decrease nervous system blocks, improves muscle tone, stimulates your immune and GI systems, and is directly related to the continued healthy functioning of rest of your active joints.
At my new location, 6474 Nancy Ridge Drive, I'm making it my goal to help make regular chiropractic care a reality for you and your families. I'm closer to many of your work locations, and will now able to offer a few different service options that will make keeping appointments easier on your time and finances. Stay tuned to these Newsletters for updates and specials in the months ahead!
Thanks again for your continued support. It's great to be back! I hope to see you soon!
Sincerely,

In Case You Were Wondering...
Updates about the new office
YES! I am still accepting insurance payments. PPO's, HSA's, and Cash accounts are all welcome. Currently I am "in network" with most Blue Shield, ACN, United, Aetna, and Blue Cross accounts.
NO, this is not a permanent office location. Since I am currently working on a part time basis, Dr. Jessica and I are sharing space to help lower our overhead costs. Once she returns to full time from her maternity leave, I will be moving to a new permanent location.
YES, I still offer discounted cash rates for full time students and military with proof of enrollment.
YES, additional hours will be added to my schedule over the next several months to accommodate your needs as best possible.
Have you reached a voice mail when calling the new office number? At my new location there are no additional office staff. So, simply leave your name, number and the time you're hoping to schedule on your message, and I'll return your call between scheduled patient appointments. Current office hours are listed on the Contact Us section of my website.

Avoid Pain from Backpack Use
Back pain is pervasive among American adults, but a disturbing trend is emerging among young children. More and more children continue to present with complaints of back pain at a much younger age than in previous generations, and the use of overweight backpacks is a contributing factor, according to the American Chiropractic Association and numerous other study groups. In fact, the Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that backpack-related injuries sent more than 7000 people to the emergency room in 2001 alone.
As your children head back to school, remember that Medical professional advise that individuals carry no more than 10-15% of their body weight on their backs. Do you know how much your child is carrying? Keep in mind this guideline: For a child weighing:
-50lbs should carry no more than 7.5 lbs.
-80 lbs, no more than 12 lbs.
-100 lbs, no more than 15 lbs.
-130 lbs, no more than 19.5 lbs, and so on.
In addition, the backpack should always be placed across both shoulders, and never hang more than four inches below the waistline. If it hangs to one side, or too low, it increases the weight on the shoulders. What's the harm? It causes the carrier to lean forward when walking, and other disproportionate shifts that lead to neck pain, muscle spasms and low back pain. The longer a load is placed on the spine, the longer it takes for the spine to be able to return to and maintain a normal, stress free condition.
So remember, bigger is not always better! Today's heavy loads can create injuries that last a lifetime. Decrease the load, spread it across both shoulders with wide, padded st
raps, and bring your child for regular chiropractic adjustments to ensure their best possible spinal health.

Seasonal News
The SD Polo Club is in the process of renewing/negotiating it's new lease for use of the Del Mar Polo Facility. They've managed the property for 25 ½ years very successfully. This time around they are even including language that directly supports lacrosse events. Now is the time for the SD Lacrosse Community to step up and support them by signing the petition from the link below.
Please forward this to all of your San Diego County Lacrosse Contacts, families, officials, etc. It takes 2 minutes to e-sign and could make a huge difference.

Healthy Hints & Tips
Should Osteoarthritis Patients Exercise?
This is a commonly asked question, especially by those patients hitting the 35-45 year old range. Despite everything we do, so far no one has found the magic way to stop aging. In an active population, osteoarthritis is an unfortunate but common diagnosis after years of activities such as pounding the pavement, volleyball and waves. But finding you've been diagnosed with OA doesn't mean you have to stop your favorite activities.
Exercise is one of the best forms of OA treatment and prevention. It strengthens the muscular support around the joints and improves and maintains joint mobility and function. In addition, exercise helps control
weight and improve the patient's mood and outlook- important factors influencing the severity of the symptoms.
If you suffer from OA, consider the following exercise tips:
* Low-impact or non-weight-bearing activities, such as walking, stationary training, and light weight training work best for OA patients.
* Use strengthening exercises if the key muscle groups that relate to the function of the joints are weakened by the degeneration.
* If you are overweight, return to exercising carefully, so as not to put too much stress on the knee and ankle joints.
* Stair climbing, water aerobics, Theraband workouts, and similar exercises will help to keep the joints mobile without straining them.
* Learn to read the body's signals and know when to stop, slow down, or rest.
* Various supplements have been shown to assist in slowing the progression and decreasing the symptoms associated with OA. However, not all supplements are created equal, and neither are each individual patients bodies. Talk to your practitioner about what specific supplements might assist your condition, rather than just taking the cheapest or most advertised vitamin on the store shelf. Remember- when it comes to supplements, you get the quality you pay for!
How Can Your Chiropractor Help? Doctors of chiropractic, by the nature of their work, can detect the earliest degenerative changes in the joints. If you don't have OA, regular chiropractic adjustments can help keep joints aligned well lubricated as joint fluids are pushed and restored between spaces. They see the impact of degenerative changes in the spine, as well as in the hips, knees, and other weight-bearing joints. Doctors of chiropractic are also trained to relieve the pain and improve joint function through natural therapies, such as chiropractic manipulation, trigger-point therapy, and specialized areas such as nutrition and Active Release Techniques.
Doctors of chiropractic can provide exercise counseling, helping you choose exercises that are best for you. If a sore or swollen joint prevents you
from exercising, talk to your doctor of chiropractic about other drug-free pain-relief options, such as applying heat or cold to the affected area. In addition, your doctor of chiropractic can help you choose proper supplements that play important roles in OA prevention and treatment.
