ASC HEALTH & WELLNESS NEWS
Greetings! |
Ahh March! The month when we develop "Madness", spring ahead, pretend we're all Irish, and wonder when the weather will allow us to finally start seeing flowers and force us to stop using it as an excuse for not working out. Despite the belief the "luck of the Irish", I'm one Irish that will tell you that I don't believe in luck. Success does not come to those with luck, but to those set goals, work hard to achieve them, and don't let obstacles or frustrations keep them back!
If you have a goal, a dream, or a hope to achieve something in life, don't let any amount of time or odds that seem to surmount against you keep you from working and praying to reach it every single day! Maybe you won't reach it taking the route you originally hoped to. Maybe you'll find a new goal or adventure along the way. Or, maybe you'll discover a world of people ready to travel in support along your journey- you just have to be open to seeing them. Take a look through the windows of your world, you might be surprised whom and what you find waiting for you!

 | EXERCISE TIPS: Try Yoga and Pilates for Improved Upper Body Strength
The typical reason for most individuals giving Yoga or Pilates a try is to improve their flexibility. However, it can also be a great way to improve functional upper body strength. Using free-weights is certainly a great way to isolate and get specific when strength training. Certain forms of Yoga such as Vinyasa Flow, on the other hand, work on coordinating efforts between muscle groups, helping to define and strengthen functionally. When done in coordination with workouts like Pilates, the two can prove a superior way to even out muscular imbalances and get the nervous system firing in its proper sequence - the essential core aspects of injury prevention and rehab.

Common Kinks & Questions: Tendonitis If you've ever wondered the basic meaning of the word "tendonitis" here's the simple explaination, and the way to figure out all the medical jargon that you might come across when trying to figure out why you hurt: Tendons are the fibrous attachment zone connecting muscle to bone. The ending "-itis" is one of the building blocks derived from Greek (in this case) or
Latin used to describe inflammation and used to construct medical terms. In this case, Tendonitis = Inflammation of the tendon; a condition that can cause considerable pain, and can be caused by a variety of reasons including overuse, repetative motions, or anatomical reasons. Treatment is dependant upon the area and cause, but can often be helped by ice, anti-inflammatories, ART, ultrasound, and other modalities and methods.
If you are concerned you might be suffering from some form of tendonitis, or any other cause of pain or discomfort, we're always happy to provide free consultations to help you find out more about how we can help, or to further direct you to the best care possible whenever indicated!
