An American writer living in Paris discovers a piano shop where used pianos are repaired, rebuilt, and sold to select customers.  At first the owner refuses to admit him, but he gradually finds his way in through an introduction from another client and the help of the owner's assistant.  He rediscovers his childhood passion for the instrument and ends up studying the history and construction of the piano.  A charming book, even for those who aren't passionate about pianos.
