Friends of the Fairport Public Library
Did you know that our Friends group manages a very successful book sale every year? This dedicated group of volunteers spends the month of May sorting donations and getting everything arranged for the sale during Canal Days, the first weekend in June. Throughout this 4 day sale, they keep the customers happy, the books moving out the door, and then the library and our patrons benefits from the proceeds.
Book sale money helps the library in so many ways--examples from the past few years:
- Library programming for all ages, all year long
- Purchase of the Interpretype devices installed at our two service desks (these keyboards allow staff to communicate easily with library users who have speech and hearing disabilities)
- Outstanding Senior Page Award given to a graduating high school library page each year
Occasionally, the Friends also manage other fundraisers for the library:- Entertainment Books each year, currently for sale at the checkout desk for $25
- Ink Cartridge/Cell phone recycling bin in the Main Street lobby
- canvas tote bags, currently for sale at the checkout desk for $10
The library receives so many book donations that we have started a small on-going sale back by our meeting room. A volunteer from the Friends keeps the area stocked and cleaned up (thanks Joanne!). Occasionally, we'll offer a special deal on those books for sale--right now it's
Buy One, Get One Free! now through Veteran's Day Take a good look at those books if you come in to VOTE on November 4thOur library is so lucky to have this dedicated group of people, volunteering their time in support of programming and services to the whole library community. We couldn't do it without them!
