Teen Topix -- Fairport Public Library

,

Thanks for signing up to receive updates on teen and pre-teen events at Fairport Public Library!  It is my hope that there is something exciting to report every month.  This month there is a lot to report!

Teen Read Week

Teen Read Week (TRW) is coming up--October 12th through October 18th.  Now in its 11th year, TRW celebrates reading for the fun of it.  And what could be more fun than getting chances to win prizes!  For each book and/or magazine that you read during the MONTH of October (yeah, we are celebrating all month!) you can get an entry into a prize drawing.  Five winners will be selected to receive a special prize package of goodies.  You can get entries at Fairport Public Library or your school library at Martha Brown, Johanna Perrin, Minerva Deland, and Fairport High School.  Look for the TRW display in the Teen Corner of the Library soon!  TRW is generously sponsored by the Friends of Fairport Public Library.

Read-a-Thon

Want another way to celebrate Teen Read Week?  How about helping to raise money for TBF Live!: The Fourth Annual Greater Rochester Teen Book Festival!  On Saturday, October 18th from 6pm-10pm, readers from all over the Rochester Area will join together at the Barnes & Noble in Pittsford Plaza for a Read-a-Thon.

Readers taking part in the Read-a-Thon will
be raising money by seeking sponsors, just like you would for a Walk-a-Thon, only instead of walking, we will be reading.  If you are interested in being a reader for the Read-a-Thonemail me and I can give you more information and set up a time for you to come in and register.

Last year readers helped raise close to $2500 for TBF Live!  This year we hope to break that record and with your help we can do it!

Kaplan Workshops

For those of you in grades 9 through 12, Kaplan Centers will be offering a series of pre-college workshops, practice tests, and seminars here at Fairport Public Library.  All of these programs are free, but registration is required.  The first is a Practice SAT on Saturday, September 27th, from 9:30am-1:30pm.  Students taking this practice exam will receive a full score report including a breakdown of the test by section and personalized feedback based on their test scores. For more information about this and all of our Kaplan programs, call us at 223-9091, stop by the Library, or go to www.fairportlibrary.org and click on the "Events and Classes."

You can also email me and I can send you a PDF of the full Kaplan program brochure.

Happy Reading!!
