CALENDAR PAGE
March is National Optimism Month. Keep a positive attitude and get rid of negative thinking. Do something that makes you feel good and perks up your mood: buy yourself flowers, visit the gym, even eat some chocolate (when no one is looking). Look forward to spring: plant your garden or start spring cleaning, one room at a time.

Greetings!
This year, after a long consideration, I have decided to change the formula of this newsletter. Its main focus will be on the current trends in design. However, since I'm getting many questions about the details of work with an interior designer, I will also include answers to your most pressing questions, both regarding your interior design dilemmas and the ins and outs of hiring a designer and the nature of the design process.
Therefore, beginning with this issue, you will find DESIGN TRENDS 2010 describing the current world trends in design. You will also see the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION column, where we're answering questions that Bozena Studio clients ask most often, even before starting to work with us. And there is WHAT'S UP? column - the update on our work and planned projects.
I hope you will like the new format. Please let me know what you think (there is a short 2-question survey at the bottom left). And, as always, I'm willing to answer questions regarding any design problems you encounter.
I'm looking forward to share with you What's New In Design!

DESIGN TRENDS 2010
NATURAL MATERIALS AND STRONG, WARM COLORS
With everyone focusing on the essentials and comfort of the home (being one of the constants in today's still uncertain and stressful times), we are turning to familiar traditional patterns and textures, redefining them and using in different ways. Natural materials like wool, bamboo, wood and felt bring warmth to our surroundings. Designers use floral patterns and knitted-look textures to invoke a cozy feeling. They unexpectedly apply wallpaper on the ceilings and put delicate graphic designs on furniture, floors and accessories. This season's colors are dark brown, camel, and
saffron, full of warmth and energy. Berry red and lilac are still present. Blues and
washed-out pastel shades are used as balance colors in this palette.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION
HOW ARE INTERIOR DESIGNERS COMPENSATED FOR THEIR WORK?
Usually, interior designers have an
hourly rate for design services that they provide. Some designers charge a flat fee that differs from project to project, depending on its scope. In regard to the procurement of home furnishing goods, designers typically work with "to the
trade" showrooms, which allows them to purchase goods on your behalf at
wholesale prices. When they do, they usually mark up the cost by 25-50% and resell the
items to you, while keeping the actual cost to you at or below retail. With every
project, the compensation method should be clearly outlined for you, so that you
will know what to expect.
