Greetings!
When I was starting Bozena Studio, the company's mission was to produce great designs that are as unique as our clients. The design customization to our clients' needs was our purpose. But as with everything, there came a change. A few years ago, afer a half day of training at the flooring store I started to experience strange symptoms: watery eyes, sore throat, and coughing. Later on, while meeting with a client on the job site at a newly built residence, I got the same reaction. I realized this is the human body's response to the indoor air pollution, the so called "new house syndrome".
Since then, I added a new aspect to the company's mission: not only great design, but also safety and health of the client.

IS YOUR HOME MAKING YOU SICK?
According
to the Environmental Protection Agency, when not enough outdoor air
enters your home, the level of air pollutants will increase, causing
discomfort and health problems. This is especially true for new homes,
which are well insulated. During winter and summer months the condition
worsens due to forced air heating/cooling, which promotes indoor air movement. The
indoor air quality is a big concern not only in enclosed
commercial and office areas, but also in our safe-haven homes, where we
rest and relax. The chemical pollutants (like volatile organic
compounds and formaldehyde) are released from furniture, new materials
used to renovate a house, paint, adhesives, and various household
products. Biological air pollutants (mold, dust mites) are present in
the damp and ill-ventilated environment. All of them may cause a spectrum of
illnesses, from upper-respiratory problems, headaches and allergies, up
to organ damage and cancer. What can you do to protect yourself and your loved ones from the harms of polluted indoor air?- use low-or zero-VOC paint & drywall
- while selecting materials, choose solid wood, reclaimed wood products, concrete/tile
- watch out for toxic adhesives (always check the labels)
- select easily cleanable window treatments
- get rid of dust-gathering, hard-to-clean items (dried flowers, heavy draperies etc)

BE ECO-FRIENDLY TO YOUR HOUSE
I'm sure you know about reclaimed wood, which gets a "second chance" in our homes instead of being transported to the landfill. I know you have seen bamboo floors, if not in a private home, then in a commercial setting. But have you heard about the in-wall insulation, made from recycled blue jeans? Or the paper stone countertops, manufactured from post-consumer recycled paper set into water-based resin? All of those are the new products, which are not only friendly to the environment, but also to your health. So next time while planning for the room of your dreams, look for quartz countertops, mesquite floors, concrete or recycled glass tile. And one last thing: please let Bozena Studio help you in your search for an eco-friendly lifestyle. You will be happy you did.
