Elite Athlete -- YOU??

Speedy people - they're the famous ones.  Greg Meyer, Dick Beardsley, Bill Rodgers.  Lots of really fast guys who have won major marathons.  Super athletes in all endeavors--Lance, Landon, Joe Montana, Sir Edmund Hillary.  People who are famous for their athletic endeavors.

Once in a while, someone comes up with the idea that sports should only be for the "super people" who are capable of winning.  NOT TRUE!

Take my mom's favorite race director, for example.  By the time I found out what a "fast-twitch" muscle was, I didn't have any left.  At age 30, I had no concept that someday I'd be running marathons, traveling the world, having such a cool life.  But I'm never going to be a speedy guy. But I am going to have fun!

The world is open to you as well.  It starts with just believing in yourself.  Writing down a few goals.  Putting together a training program.

Before you know it, something magical happens.  You find out things about yourself.  Things that used to be your "upper limit" are now just objects in your rear-view mirror.

Finishing a marathon makes you elite!  Putting together a plan that let's you cover 26.2 miles shows your determination.  It turns YOU from Joe/Jane Average into a Super Dude/Dudette!  It breaks through your limits and turns YOU into a new person.  Elite athlete?  Yeah.  That's you!

(By the way--if you ARE one of those speedy guys--we love you too!  Look forward to seeing YOU at the FINISH LINE!)

WALKERS WELCOME!

WALKERS!! Yes, we have walkers in the marathon. Early start - 7:00 a.m. for the "Velocity Challenged" makes the Metro Health Grand Rapids Marathon a walker-friendly race. No matter how long it takes, we encourage you to pursue your goals. We'll be waiting at the FINISH LINE with a hug, a medal, and a photo opportunity just for YOU!

SOCKS, HATS, EXTRA SHIRTS
But seriously folks, now that we're into the logistic phase of our planning for this fall, I need more space for the new stuff that's coming in.  So, last year's shirt price is now down to $10 plus shipping.  I just cut the sleeves off of one so that I could use it for a summer training shirt.  Also will be great for those warmer marathons that are coming up in the next few months.

Extra Red Shirts from 2009 are available at the BUYSTUFF link.  $10.   Socks, $5.00.  Hats are $10.00.   www.cooladventures.net/buystuff.htm.  Still have a bunch of the 2008 shirts for only ten bucks too, if you like.

OK, I'm going to settle in for a few weeks and get some summer projects done.  We're back from Kona, where the lovely Francine and I had a great time running a very hot, hilly marathon in the island state.
