Good News, Bad News

One of my long time computer clients is going out of business.  That's bad. I bought a used notebook from them, since it was a bunch newer than mine.  That's good.  I intended to switch computers sometime soon.  Not as soon as it happened, however--it seems that last week my computer contracted a nasty virus, (bad) which I was able to find and kill, (good) however, it screwed things up enough that I decided it was time to switch to the new computer.  So, the last week has been an adventure in getting all my stuff reloaded and ready to work.  Hence the couple weeks since you last heard from me.  (Good or bad????)

OK, enough of that.  Here's one of my paychecks I'd like to share with you:

Hey Don,
My name is Brian and I read the artical in the paper about you a few years ago.  I believe it was the Sunday profile.  I thought WOW!  It is time to make my own list of cool things I want to do with my life.  I put run a marathon on it.  My first marathon was the 2008 GR marathon. It was amazing.  I have now run three marathons and hope to do more.  Getting things crossed off on my list is a slow task but I keep at it.  I talk about my list to random people,  most are shocked I have a list written down. I can't rely on my mind and it is easy to see what I have going on and what I have done with it being written down.  I am currently writing you from the next thing on my list.  I am in Hot Springs North Carolina.  I am currently thru hiking the Appalachian Trail. I started April 7th.  I have gone roughly 260 miles.  This trip has been fantastic. I can't wait to finish so I can cross it off my list and continue my list.  This trip changed my perspective on doing things like this.  I will probably do some international travel once I get done.  I have some money saved up so I think I will be spending most of it on travel and crossing the fun travel things off my list.  I don't want to wake up one day and be on my death bed say I should have done this, I should have done that.  I really just want to say thank you for inspiring me to do something adventurous again.  Five years ago I rode my bike (bicycle) from GR to the west coast, down the coast and east to Reno NV.  Just under 4000 miles.  I called that my adventure of a life time.  Now I am hiking the AT and it is adventure of a life time II.  Then I said to myself why not have a life time of adventures instead of a few adventures of a life time.

Thank you very much for putting this list idea in my head.  Brian.

Nice, eh?  Thanks for sharing that Brian!

BAD LINKS??
Yeah--I screwed up a couple of them in the last newsletter.  You'd think a guy as smart as me would know better.  Thanks for letting me know!  The should be better in this one!  OK, here's a link that I think is good--a YouTube preview of this year's event.

Beer & Boot Camp

HOTELS
We're posting new ones as we arrange things.  Keep an eye out.

WANT TO BE ON OUR HOMEPAGE?
Check out the pictures on our Facebook page of the postcard/disclaimer.  We'd like to have a few of them in the rotating pix on the front of our website.  You can pick up the cards at Gazelle, or DOWNLOAD ONE HERE Tack it up in your office or on your refrigerator and let everyone know what you're doing.  Shoot a picture of it (landscape mode, not portrait) and send me a copy.  We'll put a few of them up our website, so the whole world will know that YOU are committed!

SOCKS, HATS, EXTRA SHIRTS
But seriously folks, now that we're into the logistic phase of our planning for this fall, I need more space for the new stuff that's coming in.  So, last year's shirt price is now down to $10 plus shipping.  I just cut the sleeves off of one so that I could use it for a summer training shirt.  Also will be great for those warmer marathons that are coming up in the next few months.

Extra Red Shirts from 2009 are available at the BUYSTUFF link.  $10.   Socks, $5.00.  Hats are $10.00.   www.cooladventures.net/buystuff.htm.  Still have a bunch of the 2008 shirts for only ten bucks too, if you like.

NEW MERCHANDISE -- 26.2 & 13.1 Oval Stickers. New Fashion T-shirts (in MEN and WOMEN cuts)  Keep an eye on the Buy Stuff page.

The Adventure Continues....

My 9-weekend adventure is going well.  Marathon #3 was last weekend in Fargo, ND.  Nice event.  RD Mark and his team put on a heck of a show out there!  I shook hands with the governor.  Met up with some old friends. Collected my North Dakota beer glass and my second ND marathon.  This weekend I'll be in Burlington, VT hanging out with some more old friends, running my second VT marathon, and hopefully visiting a couple of fine breweries in the process.

See you in October at the FINISH LINE!

and the adventure continues....
