My Month Long Mission
to Stay Motivated
|

| Thanks Oprah, Tony (Robbins), and Norman (Vincent Peale), for all the positive forward movement you've created. I appreciate all your super-charged sunshine, and the thousands of disciples you spawned who are always ready to get me pumped up.
An industry has grown around perpetually perky people who help me stay motivated and keep moving forward.
But, no single method works for everyone. What excites you might not get me out of bed in the morning. So, the Flashionista wrote a customized plan for finding the discipline to do one particular new thing right now: Bikram (hot yoga) classes 3 times a week. I'm sharing my strategy with you:
Have a mission. It doesn't have to be yoga, but pick something that really interests you and make a One Month Mission Plan for it. It can be as diverse as learning calligraphy, studying another language, or training to hike the Grand Canyon.
Put it on your agenda. Things are more likely to get done when they're part of a plan. Don't look for military precision, there's always room for being spontaneous, but it's easy to get derailed. Having an item on your agenda keeps your time from getting hijacked by whatever else comes up.
Read all about it. Make a list of at least 3 books you can read to support your One Month Mission Plan. Replace other reading materials and TV with them for the month. Don't worry about losing track of what's happening in the world, you can get by for a month with a brief daily recap. At the end of the month you may find that you have a new passion already worked into your life.
Go there. Just because it's on the agenda doesn't mean you can't blow it off. But before your do, you have to go to the place you need to be and sit there for 15 minutes. Chances are, you'll stay. Your practice won't be perfect every day, but every day you practice gets you a little closer to mastery.
