It crossed our minds last week as we put together our coverage of Fashion Week's emerging trend (the menswear influence), that the designers being lauded most of the time seem to be men.
There are plenty of women in fashion.
So where are they and why aren't they being lauded by the industry queenmakers at the same rate the young men are being anointed by the kingmakers?
Here are 4 women we think are making an impact on fashion now.
The Mulleavy Sisters
Kate & Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte
with Martha Stewart
Kate and Laura Mulleavy actually started Rodarte in 2005. They are best known for aggressive details like metal spikes, shredding, and bondage themes.
Rodarte Fall 2011
The collection they showed during Fashion Week was much softer, with more polish and less punk than usual. It had plenty of influences that are likely to show up in mainstream fashion.
The sisters were involved with costumes for the movie, Black Swan, and the attendant controversy.
