Serving Up Color with Love

The ink isn't even dry on the first draft of our Spring 2011 Trends Report, * and already there's one standout trend. Dazzling Day-Glo color.

A look at the on-court style at the Australian Open is a glimpse of how brilliant, high-wattage color is set to take over fashion for spring. It certainly made an unmistakable statement on the courts. The gorgeous saturated color almost stole the show by adding an exciting element of distraction for the watcher and probably for the opponents too.

Red flowers

Red for Spring, 2011 will definitely be of the potent power variety. Bright red is the most emotionally intense color. It gets noticed and makes the wearer appear bigger and heavier. Which could fool an opponent into thinking you're not light on your feet. Red also stimulates the heartbeat and breathing, which may help get you to the net faster. And it's the color of Love!!!

yellow flower

Yellow is a highly visible attention grabbing color associated with the sun. While it can be cheery and warm, it can also create eye fatigue because of the high amount of light it reflects. Looking at yellow increases metabolism and boosts energy, but it can also create anxiety. Babies cry more and people lose their tempers more in yellow rooms. Its effect on a tennis match may be its power to irritate an opponent.

orange safety cone

Orange is a combination of yellow and red, and is also considered a high energy color. It evokes feelings of excitement, enthusiasm, and warmth. Orange grabs attention, which is why it's used for traffic signs, hazard alerts, and safety clothing. Wearing orange on the court will get you noticed but it won't improve your backhand

Green is nature's dominant color, and generally has a calming effect. People waiting to appear on TV sit in "green rooms" to relax. There is no color psychology of record for this season's Bright Acid Green. Our take is that since Green is a combination of yellow and blue, this season's green has more yellow, therefore the same properties apply.
