"Why are we able to construct a watertight rationale for not taking a risk when we know that plunging in is the very thing we need to do? Because fear is a powerful force." Libby Gill
If it's true that behind every successful man there's a woman, then Dr. Phil McGraw is lucky to have Libby Gill. She's the branding brain behind The Dr. Phil Show.
Her first career also included 15 years as director of public relations at Universal Studios, Sony Entertainment, and Turner Broadcasting.
Today she's an internationally known business coach and bestselling author. In her new book, You Unstuck, she identifies common fears that hold us back and gives us the tools we need to torch them.
Getting past instinctive fear is difficult because such fears often have a basis in fact. This is why we get stuck in self-made ruts in spite of our intelligence and best intentions

The initial exercise in You
Unstuck is for the reader to evaluate 10 important areas of life, including career,
family, health, and significant other, and give each a value from 1 to
10. Lower values indicate areas that need work.
Be grateful for what's
working and target what's not. Gill gives us exercises for getting
specific about what's holding us back.
For example, to identify
the fear behind limiting beliefs, Gill uses what she calls a CSE
framework. Clarify
the fear. Simplify the memory. Execute the change. A simple
formula, but if it's so easy why isn't everyone doing it? Because
getting unstuck is not just about changing behavior, it's about changing
beliefs, which requires engaging significant work.
We don't really "overcome fear," we learn not to fear particular
threatening stimulus. Compare it to getting back on the horse that threw
you. If you don't, you'll always be afraid to ride.
