Advanced Placement Classes
For those students and families who are interested in accelerated academic courses, Jesuit offers 14 Advanced Placement (AP) classes. These are essentially college classes - taught, however, in high school. The first AP class a student can take at Jesuit is AP Biology during Sophomore year - which has as a prerequisite Pre-AP Biology for one semester as a Freshman. This past year 234 students took 420 AP tests, giving Jesuit an impressive 81% pass rate - the national average is 65%. In addition, Jesuit has 5 National AP Scholars, 23 Scholars with Distinction, 18 AP Scholars with Honor and 29 AP Scholars. National AP Scholar is the highest ranking; students at this level must have grades of four or higher on eight or more AP exams. Scholars with Distinction must have grades of three or higher on five or more exams; Scholars with Honor must have grades of three or higher on four exams, and AP Scholars must have three or higher on three or more exams. Graduate Jeremy Petersen passed 12 AP exams while Justus Carlisle, Jason McCreery and Michael Mellas each passed nine. Chris Eur, who is currently a senior, has already passed eight AP exams (including exams in some classes which we do not even offer) and he is taking five AP classes this year... his could be a school record for AP achievement! National Test Day National Test Day is Wednesday, October 13. Freshmen will take the EDT, the Sophomores will take the PLAN, and Juniors will take the PSAT. Test times are listed on the school calendar. There are no fees for these tests. Seniors have a holiday on that day.
In our previous newsletter, we reminded you to activate your Edline accounts. If you are having problems with this process, please contact our tech department at edline@jhssac.org. It is important that you follow every step in the activation process - especially submitting your email address and then checking your own email in order to confirm/verify this address with Edline. If you don't follow the full process, you will not receive notification of Edline updates from the school or the teachers who post information. And, to clarify, we no longer send out paper copies of progress reports; this information will be sent to all parents for every student via Edline in all classes on the afternoon of Friday, September 24th. We will still send paper copies of quarter and semester grades this school year. Various teachers choose to post grades and assignments to you directly but are not required to do so.
Counseling Office
Senior Class MeetingThere is a mandatory Senior Class Meeting on Friday, October 1, at 8:15 a.m. Attendance will be taken and important information regarding the college application process will be discussed. Seniors will receive location information in homeroom.
