Dan Vredenburgh and James Samek are the latest additions to the Watershed Agricultural Council staff.
WALTON, NY, DECEMBER 29, 2009 -- The Watershed Agricultural Council recently added two staffers to its Agricultural Program located in its West Street office in Walton.
Dan Vredenburgh from Alexandria, VA, joined the Council as an Assistant Conservation Planner on December 7. Vredenburgh has a B.S. in Natural Resources from Cornell University. Dan works one-on-one with watershed farmers to ensure the farm's whole farm plan and best management practices are current. He and his wife, Katie, are originally from the region; Dan played football and wrestled for Chenango Forks, graduating in 1991. James Samek joined the Council as GIS Coordinator, effective December 14. Samek has a B.S. degree in Environmental Science from SUNY-Plattsburgh, with a minor in Geography. James is repsonsible for creating, collecting, editing, and maintaining geospatial data. He relocated from Spotsylvania, VA to be closer to family in Johnstown, NY. The Watershed Agricultural Council continues to expand its staff with funding from the New York City Department of Environemtnal Protection, U.S. Forest Service and American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. The Council currently employees 43 indivudals based out of three offices in Hamden, Walton and Yorktown Heights. Additional subcontractors and construction businesses provide technical expertise and services through third-party subcontracts.
