No, it's not the 80's TV muppet icon...it's a prestigous environmental award presented annually by the Catskill Center. In honor of Alf Evers, the ALF Award recognizes contributions to the region's economy, sustainable business practices, and cultural offerings. Among the four Catskills businesses honored were Apple Pond Farm (a Pure Catskills member) and Catskill Craftsman (a Catskill WoodNet member). Sonja Hedlund and Dick Riseling accepted the ALF for their farm's work with renewable energy and community outreach programs. Ken Smith was recognized for Catskill Craftsman's efforts to connect the best of our region's conservation needs (by using forest products grown in our region) with development (spearheading one of the area's most successful wood-products companies). |
