Hoppe Quick gazebo Catskill WoodNetCatskills at Home in NYC
In April, the Forestry Program staff manned a booth at the Architectural Digest Home Show at Pier 94 in NYC. The 20'x20' space showcased products and furniture from 10 regional woods-product businesses. A whimsical gazebo structure by Hoppy Quick piqued expo visitors' curiosity, drawing them in by the thousands. Many an interior designer took notice of Catskill WoodNet products for future purchase. The four-day event raised the awareness of Catskill WoodNet and the WAC's Pure Catskills Buy Local woods-product initiative.
Catskill WoodNet cherry turning, mirror, hardwood flooring

Among the featured Catskill wood products were a cherry turning by Bruce McCandless of American Beauty Art, Delhi (at right). Lexington's Judd Weisberg crafted the mirror of driftwood and mosaic veneers. The 10'x10' section of hardwood flooring made of eight different species of Catskill hardwood provided by McGraw Lumber, Woodbourne, provided the base for artistic "foot traffic."

Of Interest: Agricultural Petroleum Tank Restrictions Changed
If you have active, oil or gasoline storage tanks on your property, check out the updated guidelines from the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). They have modified their regulations on Petroleum Bulk Storage, especially how it pertains to agricultural operations and how to determine if a farm needs to apply for a permit. In most cases, the threshold of 1,100 gallons is no longer a cumulative total but a per-tank total. The updates bring DEC regulations in line with federal guidelines. Differences in definition of "facility", what petroleum products are now regulated and the used motor oil requirements are also addressed. If you have specific questions, contact Russ Brauksieck (518) 402-9549.

Thanks to Rick Weidenbach at Delaware County Soil&Water, Christine Watkins at Jefferson County Soil&Water and DEC's Jackie Lendrum for the details.
