Before & After:
In the soon-to-be-released 2008 Annual Report, the Council will highlight several projects completed last year. At right, work performed at this Westchester County farm demonstrates how small improvements to an access road can greatly reduce water run-off, drainage and sedimentation. All three impact water quality. The Croton Watershed staff remedied the situation by regrading, crowning and diverting runoff away from surface water sources.

Partners in Action:
The Council and its partners help farmers address on-farm water pollution concerns. We also help them prepare for worst-case scenarios through an Emergency Action Plan (EAP). In January, one local farmer needed, and followed, his EAP prescription. WAC staff from the Agricultural Program, Delaware County Soil & Water, and Natural Resource Conservation Services (NRCS) responded professionally and quickly -- within a half hour! They helped assess the equipment malfunction and assisted the farmer with addressing the emergency before it became a water quality problem. Things like this certainly don't happen every day; but with their help, the farmer was able to divert and clean up by day's end. Read more in this NRCS story, "The Importance of an Emergency Action Plan."
