Dear Other Sheep Reader,
This issue's headline article is a letter from Danny Katende, secretary of the committee of five for Other Sheep Uganda. Danny is a Ugandan Christian gospel singer who for some time now has been out in his country as a gay Christian.
When Other Sheep conducted its Kampala day-long seminar on the Bible and Homosex- uality in July of 2008, Danny was the featured gospel singer.
Recent "ex-gay" seminars conducted in Kampala, Uganda, by Family Life Network, an American based ministry, have put evangelical churches on a witch hunt for anyone who is gay or who in some way

Katende and Fr. Musaala speak today on Uganda radio station
In a phone call today (April 13) with Danny Katende and Fr. Musaala, Other Sheep learned that they would be featured this day, again, on a local radio station. Danny reported that he spoke Friday, April 10, over a local radio station on this topic of homosexuals in Uganda.

Father Anthony
Musaala, a widely respected long standing Catholic priest, has been
viciously attacked for the religious care he often provides for
oppressed and rejected homosexuals. In 2008, Jose Ortiz and I were privileged to visit Father Musaala's church and to witness his impacting preaching and singing ministry to his youthful, large and responsive congregation.
Sincerely,
Steve Parelli, MDiv Executive Director Other Sheep ____________________

Hi Steve and Jose,
Sorry for taking so long to write, but things are not well
here.
Remember my friend Father Anthony Musaala, the Catholic
priest I sing with as a back-up vocal in his music?
Last week, the national newspaper New Vision published a
story in which some guys came out and falsely accused my priest friend that he
is one of those homosexuals in Uganda
and that he promotes homosexuality which isn't true.
This story was in all the media including all the radio and
TV stations in Uganda.
It is a big scandal.
My priest friend's name has been blackmailed. Some of the protestant churches that are fighting
gays here have defamed him. Also, the
Catholic Church in Uganda.
It has been a tough week for Father Musaala and for me
because all of Uganda
knows that I am his back-up singer.
I decided to come out on all the TV stations, radios and
newspapers to tell Ugandans that Father Musaala is not promoting any thing gay,
but that he is simply counseling and praying for homosexuals.
Both Father Musaala and I need your prayers because we have
received death-threat calls. The media
is really very unfair towards us. Some
guys want to go to court saying they have proof that we are promoting homosexuality
in Uganda
which isn't true.
I am a bit sick. I
have malaria and we [have just come] from a press conference and TV interviews.
So the scandal is what is happening in Uganda. Some churches have come together to open up
cases against us. It is terrible.
Please, I am begging you to pray for us. Please reply and advise me. What I am doing is I am going on all media
houses to try to explain gay stuff and human rights. Please reply and advise us on what we can do.
Please, we are kindly asking you to ask all gay people to please
pray for Father Musaala, a fellow colleague - ask everyone you know to please
pray for us because it is a real tough time.
It is really a tough war, but we shall not stop the struggle.
God bless you. We will be happy to hear from you guys.
Thanks,
Danny Katende Secretary, Other Sheep Uganda

Iraqi Gays Killed
25 murdered within the last two months
In the past two months, the bodies of as many as 25 boys and men suspected of being gay have turned up in the huge Shiite enclave of Sadr City, the police and friends of the dead say.-New York Times, April 7, 2009 In an article dated December 18, 2007, The New York Times reported: In 2005, Iraq's most revered Shiite cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, issued a fatwa , or religious decree, calling for gay men and lesbians to be killed in the "worst, most severe way." He lifted it a year later, but neither that nor the recent ebb in violence has made Mohammed or his friends feel safe. Click here to view an abc7news video on gays in Iraq |
