MCC Manchester, Enlgand, Pastor announces:

"I know you will be delighted to know that Prossy [Kakooza] was granted asylum here in the UK on Friday (October 17, 2008).

"As you know she fled Uganda in July 2007 after her Andy Braunstonfamily discovered she is lesbian.  She was arrested, ill-treated in custody and then her family tried to kill her before she managed to escape.  Her full story is told on our website (www.mccmanchester. co.uk)  She had a reconsideration of her case at the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal in early September (she lost her first case but on appeal it was ordered to be re-considered) and we have been waiting for the result.

Prossy's Abuse while still in Uganda

Prossy KakoozaProssy Kakooza is a 26-year-old woman seeking asylum in the UK. She fled Uganda after suffering vicious sexual, physical and verbal attacks due to her sexual orientation. Prossy had been forced into an engagement Red Pepper Article on Ugandan Lesbianswhen her family discovered her relationship with the girlfriend she met at university. Both women were marched two miles naked to the police station, where they were locked up.

Prossy's inmates subjected her to gross acts of humiliation. She was violently raped by police officers who taunted her with derogatory comments like ''we'll show you what you're missing'' and ''you're only this way because you haven't met a real man''. She was also scalded on her thighs with hot meat skewers.
