PRESIDENT of KENYA DIASPORA PRO-DEMOCRACY MOVEMENT Writes Letter of Recommendation: "I recommend him highly on the basis of his academic and spiritual qualifications and the zeal that he has exemplified over the years in promoting awareness over LGBT issues among students, staff and faculty members. I recommend him highly for attending to, discussing and supporting LGBT issues on a daily basis. I recommend him highly in the area of community involvement, church activity and productivity, since he planted two healthy churches during the years he has worked in the schools and in the church. He has also overseen the planting and growth of many others." Gerald Baraza, President

Over $4,200 (US$) collected for relief for Kenya pastors, one of which suffered loss of home and car
MCC (Metropolitan Community Churches is exploring relationship with two pastors and congregations in Kenya. Rev. Elder Glenna Shepherd, Elder serving Region 4, and Capt. Katie Harris (MCC Newcastle) spent a week in Nairobi and Nakuru, Kenya, in August 2007. It was during this time that Steve Parelli and Jose Ortiz of Other Sheep introduced Rev. Michael Kimindu, an Anglican priest, and the "other sheep" (the Kenyans for whom they conducted discussion groups) to Rev. Shepherd and Katie. Rev. Shepherd is working toward MCC ordination for Rev. Michael Kimindu and Pastor Joseph Nyaisa, a Kenyan minister who was already in touch with MCC prior to Other Sheep's visit to Kenya.
Both pastors and congregations have been challenged by the political unrest and violence in Nairobi and in the Rift Valley of Kenya.
Pastor Joseph Nyaisa, in particular, has had his life turned upside down: his family's home in Nairobi was burnt to the ground; his car was demolished; his mother witnessed extreme violence. Joseph has moved his family further north to recover and he is commuting to continue his ministry with two congregations - one in Nairobi and one in Nakuru.
Region 4 of MCC has responded generously to these needs with a special collection. Within two Sundays, the following congregations, praying for our folks in Kenya, brought their gifts to meet this emergency:
Glorious Light MCC (Pretoria, South Africa), Brightwaves MCC (Brighton, England), MCC Edinburgh (Scotland), MCC South London (England), MCC East London (England), MCC North London (England), Living Spring MCC (Bath, England), Hope and Unity MCC (Johannesburg, South Africa), MCC Hamburg (Germany), MCC Newcastle (England), Markens Liljer MCC (Copenhagen, Denmark); MCC Montpellier (France); and Salz der Erde MCC (Stuttgart, Germany).
With the totals from several churches still growing, we have collected over US$4200!! This will make such a difference in the day-to-day lives of those suffering this deplorable situation in Kenya. If others would like to contribute to this ongoing need, please contact Rev Shepherd at RevGlennaShepherd@mccchurch.net.

Rev. Kimindu's pro-LGBT ministry in Kenya
STUDY IN THE USA While attending the Christian Theological Seminary of Indiana, USA (1993-1994) where he earned his Master of Sacred Theology (STM) and while studying Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), also in the USA (1994), Rev. Kimindu became exposed to the issues and needs of LGBTs and was especially impressed with the tolerance that allowed one to study and ask questions without judgmental presuppositions against homosexuals.
TAKING A STAND IN THE KENYAN ARMED FORCES In the years that followed, back in Kenya, while ministering as a Chaplain in the Kenya Military, Rev. Kimindu wrote a paper entitled "Human Sexuality and the Military (Armed Forces in Kenya) with reference to Homosexuality" and put his name to it: Maj (Rev) M.N. Kimindu, and shared it with leadership within the Armed Forces.
SPEAKING OUT AS AN ANGLICAN PRIEST Rev. Kimindu, as an Anglican priest in Kenya, began to speak out for the full inclusion of LGBTs within the Anglican Communion. He didn't win any friends in high places. In fact, he created enemies at almost every level; it cost him any advancement and also reductions in salary pay.
KIMINDU MEETS OTHER SHEEP IN NAIROBI In July 2007, Rev. Kimindu heard from an Anglican friend that two individuals with Other Sheep were conducting discussion groups for LGBT people of faith in an apartment near Ya Ya Center, Nairobi. He immediately phoned the two leaders. The following day he was meeting with them (Steve Parelli and Jose Ortiz) and telling them his story. He was so excited to find people of faith who shared his views on homosexuality.
KIMINDU MEETS UFMCC IN NAIROBI Since that July Saturday morning, Rev. Kimindu has been actively seeking how he may minister more and more to LGBTs. Steve Parelli introduced him to Rev. Glenna Shepherd of UFMCC who, after personal extensive interviews and discussions, invited Rev. Kimindu to begin further exploration of the possibility of becoming an MCC minister, inviting him to travel out of Kenya to receive UFMCC initial training. Unfortunately, twice his government has refused him a visa.
KIMINDU'S ACTIVITIES FOR LGBTS Already busy in July and August ministering to the LGBTs that had gathered together through the presence of Other Sheep, Rev. Kimindu continues to this day to work with these "other sheep" LGBTs, as they came to be called, by opening his home for (1) weekly religious services for LGBTs, (2) a meeting place for the newly formed Other Sheep East Africa board, and (3) hosting monthly PFLAG meetings; by (4) posting his picture and contact information on the Other Sheep East Africa website; and (5) accepting the position of Consultant to the Other Sheep East Africa board.
ARCHBISHOP OF KENYA TO DEFROCK REV. KIMINDU In December of 2007, Rev. Kimindu received a disturbing email from the Archbishop of Kenya. Rev. Kimindu was ordered to cease fulfilling his duties at his assigned parish until his association with Other Sheep had been discussed and resolved.
This week, Rev Kimindu writes that proceedings to see him defrocked have begun.
REV. KIMINDU SEEKS REGULAR FINANCIAL SUPPORT Steve Parelli and Jose Ortiz, having witnessed this fellow minister's commitment to the faith in general and to LGBTs especially, recommend Rev. Kimindu to you for your consideration of partnering in ministry with him and providing him with regular financial support.
