SUNY ESF Wins Grant to Enhance iTree App
SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), a SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner, will receive more than $250,000 in grants for a project to enhance a computer application called iTree. The application uses Google satellites to allow property owners to view their land and provides estimates of the benefits of trees on their property. The goal of the app is to increase the public's awareness about urban forests, climate change and public health. When ESF scientists finish enhancing the iTree application, iTree users will be able to see how trees can improve energy conservation and air quality, reduce carbon dioxide levels and cut storm-water runoff in their neighborhoods.
