Syracuse Ranked #8 in U.S. Private Sector Clean Economy Jobs
According to a new report by the Brookings Institution, Syracuse ranks #8 in United States private sector clean jobs. The report, "Sizing the Clean Economy: A National and Regional Green Jobs Assessment," focused on the country's 100 largest metropolitan areas. The report helps to solidify Syracuse's position among the nation's leaders in the clean economy. The report also shows that Syracuse surpasses the national averages indicated by the report. The report pays special attention to Syracuse's leadership in developing green technologies within the industries of clean energy, indoor air quality, environmental engineering, and green building materials. SU's Chancellor Selected to Co-Chair CNY Regional Economic Development Council
New York State Governor Andrew M. Cuomo recently launched his Central New York Regional Economic Development Council, aimed at redesigning the relationship between the state government and businesses to stimulate regional economic development and create jobs statewide. As part of this initiative Cuomo announced that Nancy Cantor, Chancellor and President of Syracuse University, a SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner, and Rob M. Simpson, a SyracuseCoE board member and president of CenterState CEO, will serve as regional co-chairs of the Central New York Regional Economic Development Council. The regional council will coordinate the economic development of Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego counties. For more information, click here.

Syracuse Habitat for Humanity Deconstructs USBC Event, Reuses Building Materials
Volunteers with Syracuse's chapter of Habitat for Humanity ReStore recently helped the U.S. Bowling Congress (USBC) deconstruct an event hosted at the Oncenter in downtown Syracuse. The grand total of materials extracted from the site includes 47 hollow core doors, 500 sheets of plywood, 32,000 lineal feet of wood planks, 1,000 lineal feet of framing lumber and 3,300 lineal feet of wood trim. The retail value of this material is in excess of $55,000. The mission of the Syracuse Habitat for Humanity ReStore is to divert usable building and home improvement materials from local landfills. Since 2004, Habitat for Humanity has prevented more than 600,000 pounds of waste from entering landfills. For more information, click here .

Save the Date: Advanced Energy Conference in Buffalo, NY, Oct. 12-13
Advanced Energy 2011 will be held in Buffalo, NY on October 12 and 13. Coordinated by the Advanced Energy Center at Stony Brook University, Advanced Energy is an industry-wide event that discusses advanced research and issues related to a variety of energy disciplines including offshore wind, bioenergy and building/energy efficiencies. The conference will include keynote speakers, a networking cocktail reception, exhibit booths and a poster session. For more information, click here.

| Carrier Provides Commercial Building Designers and Owners With a Blueprint to Earn LEED Credits
In response to a growing demand for increased energy efficiency in buildings, SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner Carrier recently published a new guide for commercial building designers and owners to earn credits toward LEED green building certification. The 2011 edition of its technical paper, Carrier Products and LEED Certification, works as a blueprint to how HVAC systems can help building owners earn LEED credits. Empire State Building Selects Otis for Major Modernization Project
Otis, a SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner, recently announced it was awarded a major contract to fully refurbish and modernize the Empire State Building's 68 elevators. As part of this contract, Otis was also awarded a ten-year maintenance contract. The elevator upgrade is the final component of the $550 million Empire State Building renovation and modernization program. Completion of the elevator upgrade and ongoing maintenance by Otis will provide, among other things, improved speed and energy efficiency. This project will help the Empire State Building to be one of the world's most modern and energy efficient buildings. For details, click here.

NYSERDA Seeks Proposals for Green Jobs Green New York Program
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is seeking proposals to advance the goals of the Green Jobs Green New York Program (GJGNY). The GJGNY program targets energy efficiency improvements and solar thermal installations for residential, multifamily, small business and not-for-profit buildings. The GJGNY Workforce Development initiatives are designed to advance the skills of new and existing workers, provide job-related experience, and help connect new workers to employers. Commercial LED Lighting Symposium at The Tech Garden, August 11th
A commercial LED lighting symposium will be held August 11, 2011 at The Tech Garden from 3-4:30pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about LED lighting and the advantages to using LED lighting in a commercial setting. The symposium provides attendees with the chance to view a lighting demonstration, connect with lighting experts to discuss individualized lighting solutions. For details, click here.
