NYSERDA Seeks Proposals for Green Jobs Green New York Program
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is seeking proposals to advance the goals of the Green Jobs Green New York Program (GJGNY). The GJGNY program targets energy efficiency improvements and solar thermal installations for residential, multifamily, small business and not-for-profit buildings. The GJGNY Workforce Development initiatives are designed to advance the skills of new and existing workers, provide job-related experience, and help connect new workers to employers. CODE GREEN Workshop Comes to Syracuse, June 16-17
As part of the NYSERDA Energy Code Initiative, and sponsored by the Preservation League of New York State, the CODE GREEN workshop will be coming to Syracuse on June 16-17. The workshops will focus on energy conservation issues relating to individuals who work in older buildings, but who do not necessarily specialize
in historic preservation. Participants will receive technical information on the Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State - 2010 (ECCCNYS-2010) and

SU Presents Seminar on Heating and Cooling Systems, June 23
Sponsored by SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner Syracuse University (SU), Dr. Bjarne W. Olesen of the Technical University of Denmark will give a presentation titled "Possibilities and limitations for use of water based radiant heating and cooling systems". The application of radiant heating and cooling will be demonstrated and exemplified by several existing installations from air ports, museums, etc. The presentation will also discuss methods for calculation of the heating and cooling capacity of such systems, as well as the controls and the design of the systems. The seminar will take place on June 23 at the SyracuseCoE. For more information, click here.

Greenbuilt CNY Offers Tour of Green Buildings in Syracuse, June 18
In partnership with SyracuseCoE, Greenbuilt CNY will offer a half-day green building tour throughout Syracuse on June 18, 2011. Participants will jump on a bus and visit three finished green building projects, with tours given by green building experts and building and facility managers. The program for the first-ever Greenbuilt CNY will include tours of the Carmelo Anthony Basketball Center at Syracuse University, the new residence halls at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, and the new headquarters building for King + King Architects. Professionals, students, and families are all welcome to participate and will have the opportunity to earn AIA credits. There will also be a scavenger hunt for younger participants! e2e Materials Ranked 37th in top 300 Startups of 2011
It was recently announced that SyracuseCoE Patron Partner e2e Materials, based in Ithaca, NY, was recently ranked 37th in the top 300 start up companies of 2011. Chosen from an original pool of 2,518 other companies, e2e's inclusion in the top 300 startups demonstrates their commitment to innovation and excellence in sustainability. New Energy Course Launches This Summer It was recently announced that Syracuse University, a SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner, has developed a new course focusing on energy. Taught by SyracuseCoE's Suresh Santanam, who is also member Syracuse University College of Engineering faculty, What color is your energy? (ECS 200/ 500) is an exciting course on energy sustainability, covering fundamental concepts related to energy, how energy is generated, distributed and consumed, current science and policy debates, approaches to energy sustainability at local to global levels, renewable energy, conservation and consumption discussions, and national energy needs and policy. The goal of the course is to provide a comprehensive perspective on energy sustainability, and to better prepare students for careers and jobs in the field. It is offered this summer during Session II (July 6- August 10). For more information about this class, click here.

SU-SIFE Helps Local Businesses Go Green
Members of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) at Syracuse University (SU), a SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner, helped to make the local business community more sustainable by supporting eight local businesses as they worked to become "green certified" with the Green Core Company program. Starting last November, students were split into teams and assigned to the various businesses. Acting as consultants, the SU-SIFE students visited the companies to help them evaluate and implement a variety of sustainable practices. The on-site work addressed issues such as waste/recycling, energy use and green cleaning. For more information, click here.

Carrier Corp. Announces Environmental Paper Initiative
On United Nations' World Environment Day (June 5th), Carrier Corporation, a SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner, announced that it plans to switch to using post-consumer recycled paper content in all of its United States locations. It is estimated that this change has the potential to save over 600 tons of wood or 4,000 trees and 1.8 million gallons of water annually. In addition, the paper provided to Carrier's U.S. offices will be from forests that have been certified as sustainable. For more information, click here.  |

National Grid Provides $225,000 Grant to UAlbany NanoCollege for Green Energy Initiative
National Grid, a SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner, recently gave a $225,000 Renewable Energy and Economic Development grant to the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) at SyracuseCoE Charter Member University at Albany (UAlbany) to support a green energy initiative that will establish a Photovoltaic Control and Monitoring Center (PVCMC). This was the first grant awarded in eastern New York as part of National Grid's Renewable Energy and Economic Development Program and will support future solar power systems development across New York State.
