SyracuseCoE Awarded USGBC's 2010 Leadership Award
During the closing ceremony of Greenbuild 2010 - "Generation Green: Redefining Our Future," SyracuseCoE was named the winner of the 2010 Leadership Award by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in the Non-Governmental Sector. The leadership award is given to recipients for their recognized leadership and commitment to the evolution of green building design and construction. Says Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding chair of the U.S. Green Building Council: "From human performance to building performance, from air quality to building controls, from clean energy to renewable energy, the Syracuse Center of Excellence is working to leverage the best energy and ideas to advance the scientific understanding of the building science of green buildings, and applications to put that science to use." SyracuseCoE, Syracuse University Projects Featured in Metropolis Magazine
The November issue of Metropolis Magazine, a leading national publication for architecture and design, includes a feature story on SyracuseCoE and its role in helping revitalize the City of Syracuse. In addition, design projects led by Syracuse University, such as the Connective Corridor and the "From the Ground Up" homes built in Syracuse's Near Westside neighborhood, are also featured. Ohio Start-Up Relocates Headquarters to The Tech Garden
Haledyne, an Ohio-based company focused on indoor air quality and energy efficiency, recently announced it is relocating its headquarters to The Tech Garden in Syracuse, with plans to create 106 new jobs within three to five years. The company will work with local partners to demonstrate its clean air technology, which uses ultraviolet - C light to destroy airborne bacteria and viruses. This technology will improve upon current infection control techniques in hospitals by killing airborne infections, while reducing energy consumption. Haledyne's relocation to Central New York strengthens the region's reputation as a leader in R&D and manufacturing of clean technologies for energy-efficient buildings. For more, click here.

SUNY ESF Tests Unique Home Heat/Power System
A residence hall on the campus of SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry will be the location of a new freewatt plus home energy system, developed by the partnership between ECR International and SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner National Grid. Installation of the freewatt plus was driven by SUNY ESF's goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2010, as part of their Climate Action Plan. For more information, click here.

Carrier Launches University for Sustainability
SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner Carrier has launched the Carrier University Institute for Sustainability under a collaborative initiative with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Carrier is the first company to train its employees and customers in sustainable building solutions, utilizing USGBC's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) curriculum. O'Brien and Gere collaborates with Morrisville State College on the First Closed-Loop Production System
SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner O'Brien & Gere has teamed up with SUNY Morrisville State College to design a unique algae greenhouse facility. This new greenhouse is a closed-loop system, and the first of its kind to address a multitude of sustainability and energy conservation issues. For more, click here.

National Grid Enhances Energy Explorer Site
SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner National Grid has launched "Energy Explorer," an educational Web site with free curriculum-based resources for teachers and students. The education website will act as part of the Engineering Our Future program to encourage students of all ages to study science, technology, engineering and math. For more information, click here.

King + King Unveils New Green Roof
SyracuseCoE Gold Partner King + King has unveiled a new green roof, making it one of only a few specially designed and implemented examples of green infrastructure in Central New York. Funding for the new structure was made possible through the Green Improvement Fund grant provided by Onondaga County. For more information, click here.
