Bi-National Air Quality Workshop Visits Syracuse SyracuseCoE Platinum Partner Syracuse University's LC Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science and SyracuseCoE hosted a workshop Oct. 27 to 29 on acid rain effects as part of the Canada-US Air Quality Committee. The workshop was led by University Professor Dr. Charles Driscoll. Acid rain and its effects have become an issue of recent concern for the Air Quality Committee. Twenty-two US and Canadian scientists and managers met at Syracuse University to discuss the approaches and tools to assess the ecological response to emissions reductions proposed under the Canada-US Air Quality Agreement. These discussions included collaborations on atmospheric transport modeling and watershed effects modeling. The participants also discussed an initiative of pilot studies to determine the "critical loads" of acid rain to US and Canadian ecosystems.
