Greetings!
Here's a quick overview of what's happening at 99 Bottles over the next few days...plus a quick note on the new and returning beers on our wall... |
 | Today - Saturday, August 21st |
| 10:00 AM | Opening time! We start our day at 10:00 a.m. and will be here to meet your beer needs 'til 8:00 p.m. |
| What to look for...
PLINY THE ELDER. This highly sought-after DIPA has returned. We have just a case to sell today and with the bottle limit of 4 per person, expect it will sell out quickly. "World Class" on BeerAdvocate.
New & returning beer from Colorado's FLYING DOG BREWERY-- Double Dog Pale Ale, In Heat Wheat Hefeweizen, Doggie Style Classic Pale Ale, Snake Dog IPA, Kerberos Tripel, Gonzo Imperial Porter, Old Scratch Amber Lager, and Road Dog Porter. Ruff! (Road Dog is new to our market.)
FULLER'S ESB is back. No word yet on the estimated return of other Fuller's beers...stay tuned as we'll announce them upon return!
WHISTLER ALTITUDE HONEY LAGER is a sweet, but not cloying beer from Canada. We really enjoyed this one.
DIXIE LAGER & BLACKENED VOODOO have returned, just in time for your crawdad cookout.
The third in the series, SIERRA NEVADA 30TH ANNIVERSARY JACK & KEN'S BLACK BARLEYWINE ALE, just arrived! Wow. This is a fine example of the style. Robust; smooth bittersweet chocolate, piney-citrus hop notes, and hints of coffee. 10.2% ABV. Brewed once so it's of limited availability; I expect this will age well in my beer cellar. "Excellent" on BeerAdvocate.
Lots of Oktoberfest/Marzen styles have arrived. Not your typical lager, these beers are malty, clean and smooth, pour a golden to deep orange color, and have an initial malty sweetness, with a moderately dry finish. We'll be pouring five at next month's 1st Tuesday Style Night, but if you want to try some now, check out these new arrivals: AVERY THE KAISER, AYINGER OKTOBER FEST-MARZEN, BECK'S OCTOBERFEST, HACKER-PSCHORR OKTOBERFEST, PAULANER OKTOBERFEST, SAM ADAMS OKTOBERFEST, SHINER OKTOBERFEST, WARSTEINER OKTOBERFEST, WIDMER OKTO,...and I may very well be forgetting a few! Of special note, Sam Adams Oktoberfest is on sale at just $1.10 per bottle.
...and check out the lovely HOPTOBER from New Belgium Brewing while picking up your fall beers.
The pumpkins are here! If you're a fan of pumpkin pie or pumpkin bread, you've got to try a pumpkin beer! Check these out: ELYSIAN'S NIGHT OWL, DOGFISH PUNKIN', JACK'S PUMPKIN SPICE, BUFFALO BILL'S PUMPKIN ALE,...still more to come.
SPANISH PEAKS HONEY RASPBERRY is back. This is a light-bodied amber ale made with wildflower honey and natural raspberry.
New beers --and these are locally brewed in Kennewick, Wash! ICE HARBOR India Pale Ale, Columbia Kolsch, Sternwheel Stout, Harvest Pale Ale, and Runaway Red. Give 'em a try; just $1.43 each.
Part 3 of the JOHN JOHN ALE series is here, for which I'm quite thankful. I've been waiting all year for this release from Rogue Ales! It's their Hazelnut Nectar aged in their Hazelnut Spice Rum Barrels. I tried a bottle Thursday night. It was smooth and tasty, not as sweet as the regular Hazelnut Nectar and the Hazelnut Spice Rum started to make an appearance as the beer warmed toward room temperature. Also in from Rogue is their BRUTAL IPA! The IPA scores 90/100 on RateBeer.
Fans of Terrapin beer, while we're not able to get their regular line-up in Washington state, our friend at SBS-Imports has worked with the brewery to arrange two collaboration beers and bring them to us. REUNION '10: A BEER FOR HOPE is a Belgian-Style Scotch Ale. Highly drinkable and boy-oh-boy is that 8.5% ABV hidden. Drink for a cause; support the Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research! Reunion is a collaboration of Terrapin and Bison brewries. The other beer is collaboration of Belgium's De Proef and Terrapin; the beer: MONSTRE ROUGE, an Imperial Flanders Red Ale...sour fans, get your pucker ready.
SCUTTLEBUTT TRIPEL 7° is back. Tiffany enjoys this Belgian-style tripel, brewed in Everett, Wash.
More new beers: ARMAGEDDON IPA & MAYHEM from Epic Brewing of New Zealand, BAIRD DARK SKY IMPERIAL STOUT from Japan, and MIKKELLER BLACK HOLE Imperial Stout from those talented guys in Denmark. Black Hole scores 100/100 on RateBeer. Limited availability; only a case of each arrived.
BITCHES BREW is in from Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. This limited release features the Miles Davis Bitches Brew cover, so if you're a jazz fan you should definitely pick up a bottle of this beer. It's a unique and interesting beer, 75% stout blended with 25% honey-gesho beer. Don't know what gesho is? Don't worry, neither did we. It's a plant that grows in Ethiopia; all parts of the plant are harvested and used for nutrition, medicine or religious purposes. The blend gives the stout notes of honey and dry earthy-leafy notes that come out to play. 9% ABV, limited availability... 2 per person while it lasts.
We also brought in a Samuel Adams fall mix pack to break up so you can try bottles singly. These sell out quickly as there is just 4 bottles each of the special releases, which include: HARVEST PUMPKIN, IRISH RED, and DUNKELWEIZEN.
...and there's a lot of other returning beer, too numerous to mention. Stop in and check it out. We'll be looking for places to put it all at 99 Bottles! |
| 4:00 PM | TASTE "THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE" CIDER |
| Stop by to try the best cider...that is, the 2009 People's Choice Award-Winning Cider, BURRO LOCO. Plus three other handcraft artisanal ciders from Red Barn Ciders: FIRE BARREL (not your momma's cider, this one's aged in fire-charred Kentucky white oak barrels, with bourbony notes), SWEETIE PIE (made with Gravenstein apples), and JONAGOLD (7% apply goodness!).

| 5:00 PM | MEN'S ROOM ALE RELEASE PARTY! |
| | The KISW-FM 99.9 afternoon drive team, The Men's Room, wanted a beer so they turned to Seattle's Elysian Brewery. The resulting beer: THE MEN'S ROOM ORIGINAL RED ALE.
We're excited to host the NW bottle release party of this special beer, which has previously been available only on draught or in bottles at the brewery.
Join 99 Bottles and Laura Stoudt of Elysian Brewing on Wednesday, August 25th.
The beer will start pouring at 5:00, with last call at 7:30 p.m.
Tasting fee is just $1 to try 5 beers: The Men's Room Original Red, Avatar Jasime IPA (a blast of jasmine flowers on the nose and tongue!), The Immortal IPA, Dragonstooth Stout, and Night Owl Pumpkin Ale.

Please note, next week's Weekly Pick is cancelled, so we can party with the Men's Room Original Red Ale from Elysian Brewing. Note the adjusted Wednesday tasting time. |
