Greetings!

Seattle Beer Week is in May -- and we'll be holding a lot of events at 99 Bottles so you won't have to make a drive to the big city to participate!

Also, last week we launched the 99 Bottles blog. Here you'll find a wide array of topics, including:
  • Beer News & Chatter - chatter about labels coming or going in Washington state, links to articles and blogs we found interesting and want to share, and more...this is kind of a 'catch all' category
  • Dish 'n Beer - currently just notes on beer and food pairings, but will grow to include recipes that use beer
  • Shopkeeper Notes - rants, raves, and thoughts about being small business owners and operating a beer store; blogs starting with "rant" may be controversial!
  • We're Drinking - notes about beer styles, how to taste beer, and our personal thoughts about the beers we're drinking
...with more to come! We encourage and welcome feedback on blogs posted, but require moderator approval before they are visible in an effort to keep out spam.

This week we'll start going through the stack of beer clerk applicants in effort to find the new member of the 99 Bottles family. We wish Jake all the best as he pursues his masters; stop in and wish him well -- his last day is May 21st.

Cheers!

The weekly pick

Obolon beer from the UkraineTry 2 beers for $1 every Wednesday at 99 Bottles. This week, on April 28th we'll be pouring two beers from the Ukraine: Obolon Magnat & Obolon Deep Velvet.

When the Soviet government set a task to build a brewery in time for the 1980 Olympics, they hired Czech specialists, who are known to be world famous masters of brewing. The Czech specialists chose the place for the new brewery because of its proximity to artesian wells. After all, water is a main component influencing the taste of beer. The place they chose was Obolon, one of Kiev regions, which is situated on Dniper river bank. The word Obolon comes from the times of Kiev Rus was the name for low river meadows, and was the name that brewery chose for itself. The brewery was built from Czech design and started to produce beer that gained popularity in Soviet times. And in independent Ukraine, Obolon was the first company that started to export its products to Europe and the USA.
