Bayern FaceplantBayern Faceplant Doppelweizen is an unfltered wheat bock beer that's brewed with five types of malt (Wheat, Pilsener, Carmel, Munich and Chocolate) balanced with Perle hops. Toasty wheat, with notes of brown sugar, molasses, chocolate, banana, and spice. Winter Release 7.5% ABV

Boulevard Boss TomBoss Tom's Golden Bock is a spring release Maibock from Boulevard Brewing. Just who is Boss Tom? The neck label reads, "From 1925 until 1939, Kansas City was controlled by the powerful political boss Thomas J. Pendergast, whose 'Goat' faction feuded with rival 'Rabbits' for partisan dominance. The atmosphere of graft and lawlessness fostered a boom in jazz clubs and speakeasies, earning our town the title 'Paris of the Plains.'" This crisp, refreshing German-style lager is caramelly, with a light bitterness to balance the toasted malts. Pair it with spicy Asian foods, bratwurst, Swiss cheese, or white chocolate cheesecake. 6.1% ABV, 33 IBU

Diamond Knot Slane's Irish Ale is a lovely, locally brewed malty Irish-style red ale that features flavors of caramel and toasty bread, with a big, sticky, dry palate.

Birra Dolomiti Lager is a German-style Pils comes to us from Italy. The flavors are of sweet grain and bready malts, with notes of honey and a crisp finish. 4.9% ABV

Epic Ales brewmaster Cody Morris
The new Seattle-based Epic Ales brewery makes beer with the imagination of Belgian brewers and the love of food found in Italian chefs. Each beer is a delight in itself but the true beauty will be discovered when paired with the right food. Be kind, let your beer play with your food!

Solar Trans-Amplifier is a crisp ale that's a twist on the Belgian witbier, with a change from wheat and oats to rice, and from coriander and bitter orange peal to ginger and camomile. Pair it with pre-dinner snacks, fish-based dishes, and salads.

OTTO-Optimizer is the perfect beer for after-dinner when you can't decide between a cup of coffee or a digestif. The beer combines the exotic spices of Turkish Coffee with the esoteric properties of a Belgian "porter." Serve OTTO-Optimizer after dinner with nuts, dried fruit, Middle Eastern-style desserts and, of course, chocolate.

Terra-saurus is a  dark, rich hearty ale that's made a blend of roasted barley and oats and shiitake mushrooms, which adds an umami-soaked earthiness to the beer. Pair Terra-saurus with a hearty fresh-off-the-grill steak or a late night game of poker.

Simple Ale is a sessionable beer that's made with malted barley and hops, and is perfect for pairing with Hawaiian pizza.

FrancaEstrella Galicia is a premium pale lager that comes from Spain. It's brewed with straightforward ingredients of water, barley malt, maize, and hops. The flavor is of cereal and sweet corn, with a faint floral hop and a crisp, light body. 4.7% ABV

Franca is a pale lager that comes to us from Peru and is produced by Ajeper (Yep, the Peruvian soda maker!). It features flavors of corn, malt, and cereal grain...and we hear it's better than a certain American brand that features Clydesdale horses. 5% ABV

Fruli Strawberry BeerVan Diest Fruli Strawberry Beer smells like strawberry candy, pours a hazy reddish color and hits the palate with a smooth, sweet strawberry and features a creamy mouth-feel. This beer is brewed by Huyghe Brewery-- you know them from the Delirium beers! Fruli is 4.1% ABV and can be served alone or on the rocks...yes, on ice! Check out this fun Fruli Web site with their catchy, Fruli Fruli Fruli Fruli...Ruby Ruby Ruby Ruby...video and song.

Fuller's London Pride is now available in cans! A good example of the classic English pale ale, London Pride is malty, firm, crisp with a nice soft character. 6.1% ABV, 33 IBU

Left Hand Good JujuLeft Hand's Juju Ginger is now called Good JuJu and sports a groovy new label. We're told the artist included a self-portrait on each of the new labels...pick up a bottle and see if you can spot him! This crisp, refreshing ale has flavors of fresh, clean ginger with smooth biscuity malts, and notes of fruit and spicy hops. 4% ABV, 17 IBU

New Belgium's Lips of Faith
NBB Lips of FaithWelcome to two new additions to the newest Lips Of Faith series beers from New Belgium Brewing. That's right...the makers of Fat Tire, 1554, and Sunshine Wheat.

Previously only available on draught, Eric's Ale is an oak barrel wood-aged ale with tart peaches. The beer is a drinkable sour hybrid with subtle peach tones and a warm, spicy finish. The aroma has pleasant hints of vanilla and tropical fruit, the wood characteristics are present but nicely muted. Eric's Ale weighs in at 7% ABV and is "best enjoyed while listening to the dulcet guitar work of Buckethead."

Also part of the Lips of Faith series is Belgian Style Blond Ale, which is totally new to the New Belgium line of beers. While light in color, body and texture, this blond isn't timid. Belgian yeast gets on with Saaz and Syrian Golding hops for appreciated complexity and crisp finish. 7.5% ABV

Primo Island LagerPrimo means the best...the best waves, the best people, the best places to be. And Primo Island Lager is brewed with Pure Island Cane Sugar! Yum...it's a nice sweet, refreshing lager that dates back 1897. Though the draught version is brewed at the Keoki Brewing Company on Hawaii, the bottled version we get here on the mainland is brewed at the Miller plant in Irvindale, California.

Saigon Export is a clean, crisp, refreshing lager representing a new country at 99 Bottles... Viet Nam! 4.7% ABV

Sierra Nevada 30th Fritz & KenThis year Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is celebrating their 30th Anniversary...and doing it in a big way by releasing a series of limited-release beers. First in the line-up is Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary Stout by Fritz & Ken. Hurry in to get a bottle..this beer is limited and is selling quickly. The beers will be released periodically throughout the year, starting with this first release in March, and continuing until Sierra Nevada's 30th Anniversary on November 15. Learn more about the beers and the brewers collaborating on each beer at the brewery's special anniversary Web site.

Schlägl beer has been produced since 1580, when it was originally brewed by monks of the monastery in Schlägl, Austria. The beers are light yet full-flavored with a harmonic bitterness and the following Schlägl beers are now available: Red Ale, Kristall, Double Bock, and Roggen Gold...yes, that last one is a true Roggenbier style, the first we've seen of its kind at 99 Bottles!

Upright Brewing
Upright Brewing specializes in farmhouse-inspired beers rooted in France and Belgium-- but made with local ingredients and a Pacific Northwest twist. The name 'Upright' is a reference to Charles Mingus, a musician whose compositions defy categorization, and his primary instrument. Upright uses a special saison yeast and open fermenters to produce beers that are a true hybrid style, sharing Mingus' spirit of exercising creativity and craft.

Upright SevenSeven is Upright's most aromatic beer. The brewery's saison yeast is fully expressed in the aroma with lots of fruitiness while the hops provide light spice notes. (I can attest to this as I'm drinking a glass of Seven while finishing The Weekly Brews newsletter tonight!) The beer is somewhat tart and has some heft mid-palette but finishes dry with a lightly lingering bitterness. Seven is satisfying on its own but pairs great with a variety of typically fragrant cuisines such as Thai or Indian. 8% ABV

Flora Rustica is an old-style saison-- pale, drinkable, dry and bitter. It's brewed with organic pale and caramel malts, Hallertauer Mittelfrüh hops, Yarrow, Calendula, and French saison yeast. 5.1% ABV

Pure Wit is a traditional Belgian-style wheat beer that uses a special yeast with a different character than the house saison strain. It's spiced as a traditional witbier, with bitter orange peel and coriander. 4.5% ABV

Oyster Stout is brewed in collaboration with Jason McAdam of upcoming Alchemy Brewing using an old English method of incorporating both oyster juice and whole oysters into the kettle. 6.25% ABV

Sir Perry
And, last, but not least...William's Sir Perry is a new pear cider from Matthew Clark of England, who you know for their Babycham perry. Poured into wine glass, Sir Perry's appearance is reminiscent of a lightly effervescent sparkling white wine. Lightly sweet and candy-like pear, with a hint of chardonnay. Yep, I get a wine-like impression on the palate, though it appears that no grapes are used (ingredients listed are fermented pear juice, carbonated water, sugar, malic acid, and sulfites to preserve freshness...the can also says it's gluten free). Fairly natural tasting on the palate, with a hint of tannin. A nice refreshing, somewhat sessionable drink. 6% ABV

P.S. Lots of returning beers-- Bayern St. Wilbur Hefeweizen, Lost Coast Great White, Carlsberg Elephant, and a multitude of others too numerous to list. See you soon!
