West Coast IPAWest Coast IPA
This West Coast-Style India pale ale is extravagantly hopped, full flavored, medium bodied, and copper colored. A menagerie of hops is combined throughout the brewing process to impart specific characteristics. Hops used include Simcoe for a unique fruitiness and grapefruit zest, Columbus for strong hop pungency, Centennial for pine and citrus notes, and Cascade for floral aroma. 2008 Brewing News National IPA Champion. 7.3% abv, 95 IBU

Le FreakLe Freak

TrippelTrippel

From Brouwerij Roman of Belgium...

Adriaen Brouwer Dark Golden AleAdriaen Brouwer Dark Gold Ale
An authentic double brown ale, brewed in the tradition of the Oudenaarde region in the Flemish Ardennes--one of the most picturesque regions of Flanders. This is the beer the world famous Flemish painter Adriaen Brouwer, born in Oudenaarde in 1605, used to love so much. Actually too much, since he died way too early on a constant overdose of ale, sex, and too much partying! He was born with a natural talent for color and drawing, he was the epicurean by excellence, spending all his money the moment he got it on the good things in life. A bottle-conditioned living beer. 8.5% abv

From BridgePort Brewing of Oregon...

BridgePort Highland Ambush Scottish AleHighland Ambush Scottish Ale
First brewed in the 1980s as a special beer for the BrewPub at BridgePort, Highland Ambush is making a triumphant return more than 20 years later. Stuart MacLean Ramsay, then pub manager, conceptualized the brew to pay homage to his Scottish heritage. This year's Highland Ambush takes inspiration from the original ale using NW pale ale malt with Scottish crystal and roast malt. The hopping rate of Highland Ambush has been toned down to help highlight the complementing vanilla from the American oak bourbon barrels and caramel-toffee malt nuances. Limited release. 6.8% abv; 40 IBU

Hop CzarHop Czar IPA
Hop heads rejoice! BridgePort's annually released imperial IPA has returned to 99 Bottles. Succulent citrus and resinous pine hops, with sweet caramel-biscuit malts. Notes of spicy alcohol and juicy fruits. Lingering bitter finish. Spring release. Now in 12-oz bottles! 8% abv

From Widmer Brothers of Oregon...

W'10 Pitch Black IPAW'10 Pitch Black IPA
The label reads, "A pinch of black malt and splash of roasted barley break this IPA apart from tradition. Cascadian Dark: Join the shady revolution." Pretty obvious that Cascade appears to be one of the main hops used here. We're already hearing rave reviews from hop-heads who've picked it up at 99 Bottles. 6.5% abv

From Lagunitas Brewing of California...

The Hairy Eyeball AleThe Hairy Eyeball Ale
An American strong ale featuring a palate of dark spicy malts and fruity raisins, with sweet flavors of molasses and brown sugar. Dry finish. January release. 8.8% abv

3 reasons I'm going to Belgianfest
2010 marks the first year for Belgianfest, where there'll be over 50 Belgian-style beers brewed by Washington breweries! Here are three reasons I've been looking forward to Belgianfest...

1) Inspired rarity. Inspired by the beers of Belgium, 25 local brewers have crafted a lot of beers that I won't find in bottles. Many beers are draft-only and created just for the festival. I can't wait to try the beers and learn which ales gave inspiration.

2) Friends.
I see many industry friends only at Washington beer festivals...and often run into many other familiar faces during the event. And what's better than good friends with good beer?

3) Flavor! Belgian-style beers are full of flavor. From light and refreshing saisons and witbiers, to the more refined dubbels, tripels, and quads, to the crazy tongue-teasing sours.

...and a fourth reason: You get 10 tasting tokens with your admission!

Space is limited, so if you haven't yet gotten your ticket, you better get a move on! There are still a few tickets available at select outlets, including 99 Bottles.

New to Belgian ales? Check out the BelgianfestWeb site for info about the country and the beer. Stu Stuart, of Belgian Beer Me! will also be at the festival to answer questions.

$35 at the gate [limited] or $30 advance - cash or check only
99 Bottles accepts debit, credit and gift card payments for your festival tickets, but adds $1 per ticket service fee to cover merchant processing.
