Ideas That Will Work and Help You Increase Sales

One of the most often asked questions during a retail business coaching session is, "how do we increase sales".  Here are some  ideas that will really work.

 

Increasing sales through add-on sales is an important strategy for the continued growth of your retail business.  Have a look at this example.  If your average sale is -  $30 and you want to increase sales by 15%, show each customer one more product at $4.50.  Do your own math come up with your own ideas as to what to show.  You make your money on the second item you sell a customer, the item you add-on.

 

Your staff must be trained to contribute to your sales goals by taking ownership of add on sales.  Here is a little of what you might say when explaining the add on sales program to your staff.  Go over generally, why you are asking them to buy into this idea, then tell them how to bridge the conversation with the customer from the item they are buying to the add on sale item.  Say,  " have you seen this, or this goes perfectly with".  You may have to put this down in writing for your staff. You can write the script or it can be a written collaboration of ideas and words that you and your staff agree on.  Role-play, if you have never done this with your staff it may seem awkward at first but very soon, all will feel comfortable and realize what a great tool it is for training.

 

Your staff must take ownership of the add on sale program. You want feedback from them.  You want to know what is working and what is not. Your focus on training and open communication with your staff on your add on sales program will show up at the cash register almost immediately.

 

And finally;your add-on sale program should be implemented in a minimum of two places, on the sales floor, and at the cash counter.

 

Other ideas  that will help increase sales:

  1. Share daily sales targets with your staff.

  2. Give staff sufficient information about events and promos.

  3. Share average sales numbers with staff so they can take ownership of  the sales process and contribute to the stores sales goals consistently.

  4. Ask for feedback and check in with your staff to see how they are doing.

  5. Count traffic . Keep track of how many sales you make a day.  If you are not selling to everyone that comes in to your store  - there is your next challenge.  Turn walk-ins  into buyers.


There is no time like to day to start using the ideas I have shared with you. The growth of your business is easier to achieve then you may think. Start by trying just one of the ideas I have shared with you.  Then keep the momentum going. Try the next idea and so on.
