Last week I spoke to the retailers and related businesses of Chatham-Kent. Thanks for the great turnout.  To the two  lucky retailers   who won  Retail Makeovers  again  congratulations  Kathy,  owner  of Birdies' Nest and Linda, owner of The Wine Store and More  - it was a pleasure to work in your stores.

The focus of my newsletter this week is:

Do You Know What Your Staff's Job Description Is? and How That Can Effect Christmas Sales?

This is a great time to review job descriptions with your staff. You are most likely bringing on new  hires for the Christmas season.

Your staff need to know what their job description is and what you expect them to do during their shift . They should be taught how to sell and most importantly how to interact and be with customers effectively.

Its up to you to set the expectations of the job, out lining the job activities for each day or shift. Keep spot-checking to see how things are going and determine what needs reviewing. Your staff should be given feedback . They need to know how they are performing against your policies and procedures.

So make room for this in your day-to-day operations.

I know it's a very busy time right now. If you don't pay attention to these details you can expect to loose sales. So keep up with the  training  and check in regularly  if not daily with your staff to see how they are doing.
