Construction work to begin on Damen Ave
The City Water Department is expected to begin a major reconstruction of a rapidly deteriorating water main on Damen Avenue from Armitage to Churchill this fall. There will be delays and temporary closures of Damen so please consider alternative routes to get to work or school. Please be considerate of neighbors while using side streets. Guided Tree Walk
Come join the Bucktown Community Organization (BCO) Sponsored Fall Guided Tree Walk on Sunday October 17 at 3:30pm. Led by local naturalist, tree keeper and BCO member Janet Mrwoka, you can discover nature in your very own front yard or city parkway! Join the walk at the NE corner of Bloomingdale and Wolcott (in front of 1801 N. Wolcott), the guided walk will continue until 5pm. This free event is open to all. Scarecrow Extravaganza
On Saturday, October 23, the Wicker Park Committee will host its Annual Scarecrow Extravaganza. Join local businesses and community groups in sponsoring and dressing scarecrows in festive fall attire. All scarecrows will be displayed on the lawn of A.N. Pritzker School (2009 W. Schiller Ave) from Noon to 4 pm. The Wicker Park Committee will supply straw, stakes, wire & paint the rest is up to your imagination! Vert Couture: Eco Fashion Show

The Flat Iron Artists Association presents WPB First Fridays! On the First Friday of each month the Wicker Park/Bucktown area will come alive with a unique celebration of the arts. It's a neighborhood pARTy and everyone is invited! Start your evening at the historic Flat Iron Arts Building where you can explore two floors of art displayed in artists' studios and living spaces. Of course, the surrounding neighborhood is expecting you, so feel free to venture forth on your own and enjoy the boundless shopping, dining and nightlife opportunities our vibrant community has to offer. The next WPB First Friday will take place November 5 at the Flat Iron Building, 1579 N. Milwaukee from 6-10pm. Admission is always free, but donations are gratefully accepted. FREE Paper and Electronics Recycling -- Final Shred Event for 2010!

Residents in the Wicker Park and Bucktown neighborhoods that are concerned about crime should plan to attend an upcoming CAPS meeting. Wicker Park and Bucktown are located within the 13th and 14th Districts, and there are eight beats that cover the neighborhood.
