The inaugural Elgin International Festival, or iFest, takes place on Saturday, September 1. The festivities start with a parade thru downtown Elgin beginning at 11AM, followed by a daylong festival celebrating the many diverse cultures in the Elgin community. The Next Wave Art Salon |
The Next Wave Art Salon takes place on Friday, September 7 from 6-10PM and Saturday, September 8 from 4-10PM at 166 Symphony Way in downtown Elgin. Now in its third year, the salon features 150 artists from throughout the Elgin and Chicagoland area. There will be $3,000 in prize money awarded to the top artists. Artistic mediums include two-and three-dimensional visual art as well as performing artists and more. Admission is FREE! Free parking available in the public parking garage across from The Centre. #1: Downtown Elgin Pub Crawl is This Saturday! | |
The Olympic flame may have been extinguished but the games of the first ever Pubtathalon have just begun!
On Saturday, August 18 from 7PM-Midnight, the Downtown Elgin Pub Crawl comes crawling back to nine participating downtown establishments. Passports are available the night of the event for $10.
Crawlers who obtain passport punches at seven of the nine downtown venues will be entered into a drawing for a $500 cash prize to be announced on Wednesday, August 22. And because pub crawling is not just a game but a sport, the Downtown Neighborhood Association is also offering the first 30 to cross the Pub Crawl finish line a shiny Pubtathalon medal courtesy of Andersen's Wedding Invitations at 27 N. Grove Avenue in downtown Elgin.
This year's Pub Crawl features NINE participating downtown Elgin bars including The AfterSet, Douglas Street Sports Pub, Eaton's Redwood Inn, Elgin Public House, Gasthaus, Martini Room, Prairie Rock Grill, Prime BurgerHouse inside Grand Victoria Casino and Villa Verone. #5: Out to Lunch at Elgin Public House | |
Our next Out to Lunch event takes place Tueday, August 28 at Noon at Elgin Public House, 219 E. Chicago Street.
This month's special guest speaker is City of Elgin Mayor David Kaptain who will bring guests up to speed on the latest Elgin happenings, including the inaugural Elgin International Festival taking place the following Saturday, September 1. Representatives from the iFest committee will also be in attendance to answer any questions.
For $12 per person (tax & tip included, cash only) guests will enjoy a deliciously prepared lunch buffet as well as choice of soft drinks or water.

#6: DNA Awards Gala Goes "Prom Time" | |
The DNA's Awards Gala will be held on Thursday, October 11 from 6-9PM at the Grand Victoria Casino and we're going from prime time to "PROM time"!

On Wednesday, August 15 beginning at 8:30PM, Martini Room invites you to their monthly Gallery Night event.
For the month of August they will be featuring a collective show with the works of artists A.J 47 a.k.a. Angelo Joseph, Jcaz a.k.a. Jody Casden and Cheryl Casden. Originals and prints will be available for viewing and purchase.
The collective crew will have hand made buttons and artisan crystal jewelry for sale and Cheryl will demonstrate her amazing henna tattooing talents.

#9: Elgin Short Film Festival | |
The 4th Annual Elgin Short Film Festival takes place Saturday, September 22 at 7PM at The Hemmens, 45 Symphony Way.
General Admission tickets to the film festival are $5 and may be purchased at The Hemmens Box Office, by phone at 847-931-5900 or online at Hemmens.org.
The Short Film Festival is still taking submissions for this year's event. Last call for short film submissions is this Friday, August 17.

#10: Help United Way of Elgin Win $25,000 | |
United Way of Elgin has made it to the final round in a contest sponsored by Plante Moran for a
$25,000 grant determined by your online votes.
The prize would go towards their early education initiatives, like the Imagination Library and Getting Kids Ready for Kindergarten Calendar.
VOTE NOW through Noon on Friday, August 17 to help bring the money to Elgin! You can vote as many times as you like.
