Musicians Wanted for Pub Crawl |
The DNA is looking for musicians to play on street corners for the Downtown Elgin Pub Crawl on August 12 (rain date is August 13). Not looking for full bands - need 1-2 musicians on each street corner. Looking for a variety of strings, brass, percussion, vocals, etc. Electricity may be provided for a single amp. Vice to Nice: Transformation of Chicago's South Loop |
Join DNA on Thursday, July 21 for a walking tour that explores the architecture and history of an area that has undergone dramatic transformation, followed by dinner at your choice of the area's many restaurants.
The cost of the trip is $30 per person, which includes the tour and round trip train fare from Elgin. (Train leaves Chicago St. Metra Station at 3:28PM and arrives back in Elgin at 10:50PM.) Grove Avenue (Kimball Street and N. Grove Avenue) next to The Centre of Elgin and across from the Gail Borden Public Library.
NOTE: The Crosstown Classic Challenge Cookoff between In the Neighborhood Deli and Elgin Public House originally scheduled for this Thursday has been postponed. We will look to reschedule sometime in August.

Frock Swap, the annual wardrobe revitalization event which benefits the Community Crisis Center, returns to The Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, on Saturday, July 16.
For a $10 entry fee, shoppers & swappers can revitalize their wardrobes for little or no money. It's green. It's affordable. It's good for our community. In addition to the shopping and swapping, new additions to this year's event includes special honorary chair, WGN's Nancy Loo, a celebrity boutique, door prizes, DJ, fashion show, and more!
Frock Swap advanced drop offs will be accepted at The Hemmens. Drop off dates and times are Wednesday, July 13 at 9AM and Thursday, July 14 at 9AM.

This Thursday, July 14 from 7-9PM, on the eve of the release of the final chapter in the Harry Potter movies, make a little magic at the Gail Borden Public Library's very last Muggle Madness event. Activities include:
- Dress as your favorite Harry Potter character, bring a camera and pose in front of Hogwarts. - Get interviewed by reporter Rita Skeeter with interviews to be posted on the library's website. - Enjoy a taste of Butter Beer (great with Cockroach Clusters!) - Practice potion making (will it be Wolfsbane Potion or Draught of the Living Dead?) - Guess the number of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans. The Muggle who comes the closest will win a Hogwarts game.
- Make a magic wand or even a mad eye to look like Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody. - Go on a Horcrux Hunt to find clues throughout the library for a chance to win a LEGO Hogwarts set!

Leapin' Lizards! The popular comic strip heroine takes center stage in Elgin Summer Theatre's production of Annie for a two-weekend engagement at The Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way.
The production boasts one of Broadway's most memorable scores, including "Hard-Knock Life," "Easy Street," and "Tomorrow".

| #7: Walkabout: Theatre on Your Feet | | |

The Elgin Cultural Arts Commission presents the 4th Annual Walkabout: Theater on Your Feet.
This year's theme is The 'Art' of Friendship. Come see one play performed by three different theater companies. The characters will stay the same, but the actors will change as the play reaches its climactic conclusion. Featuring performances by the Guild Theater, Janus Theatre Company and Nothing Special Productions. Also on display will be artwork by local artists. Don't forget about the famous Al's Café malts at the end of the tour.
Performances take place on Saturday, July 16, 23 and 30 starting at 1PM at Elgin Public House, 219 E. Chicago St. Tours begin every 20 minutes until 2:20 pm. Tickets are $15 - cash only at the door. For reservations, call 847-841-1713.
Walkabout is also seeking additional volunteers to serve as tour guides. Perks include a free t-shirt, a free malt, and you get to lead a group of people around downtown Elgin all while getting some great exercise and a front row view of the show.
