| #1: June "First Thursday" at the Harvest Market | | |

On Thursday, June 3, the Downtown Elgin Harvest Market, held every Thursday at the intersection of Highland and Douglas Avenue, will unveil the first of five special market promotions entitled "First Thursdays".
On the first Thursday of each month the Harvest Market extends their hours of operation by two hours from 10am-6pm and offers many special events and attractions for customers to enjoy.
Among the special promotions that will be featured at the June "First Thursday" Market include:
ˇ Free Harvest Market bags to the first 50 people to visit the DNA booth. ˇ Fused-glass jewelry by artist Heidi Hollay ˇ Informational booths by ECCO, Elgin Community Network, Alexian Brothers Hospital Network, Salon Couture and Chiro One. ˇ An all-day bike corral where bicyclists can ride their bikes to the market and park in a designated bike area. ˇ "D.I.Y. Pollack" Public Art Project: The public is invited to create abstract art on a 6' x 12' canvas with traditional and non-traditional painting tools. (Paints are water soluble, however painters are encouraged to wear clothes they don't mind getting paint on just in case.) ˇ Face painting by Gene Diaz, JusFaceIt from 11am-1pm ˇ Live music by Dave Hudson and Friends ˇ "Rediscover Downtown Elgin" Walking Tour from 6-7pm led by the Downtown Neighborhood Association. | #2: Ike's Fish for Fun Youth Fishing Derby | | |
When was the last time you took your children or grandchildren fishing? Well here is your chance!
The City of Elgin, with the help from the Izaak Walton League of America, proudly present Ike's Fish for Fun event on Saturday, June 5 from 9-11am at Walton Island.
Fish for Fun features a fishing derby for youths 15-years-old and younger. Awards are presented for the largest catch in each category. Youth must be accompanied by an adult. Depending on weather, time and location is subject to change. This is a FREE event! Call 847.531.7000 for updated information. |

| #4: Together We're Elgin...A Community Cookout | | |
"Together We're Elgin...A Community Cookout" will be held on June 5 from 12-5pm at the City of Elgin Plaza between City Hall and The Hemmens Cultural Center.
The event will include a Not For Profit fair as well as activities and games for the kids. There will be live bands playing on the steps to city hall including two local favorites, Vehicle and The Reverends.
In addition, there will be hot dogs, burgers, chips, soda and maybe some more surprises. This is a free event to everyone. Food is free as well (while supplies last).

| #5: Elgin Public House's Champagne Dinner | | |
On Tuesday, June 8 from 6:30pm-9:00pm, Elgin Public House, 219 E. Chicago Street will host a Champagne Dinner.
This month's dinner features a Mushroom Brie Soup, Crab Salad with Champagne Dressing and Lobster Mac & Cheese all paired with delicious champagne.
Cost is $50 per plate. Reservations are required.

| #6: Elgin Symphony Orchestra's Symphonie Fantastique | | |
 The Elgin Symphony Orchestra Presents: Symphonie Fantastique Within each of the works on this electrifying program lies the Dies Irae, a haunting melody that has inspired composers for centuries, from thirteenth century sacred works to favorites such as Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique. Stewart Goodyear, a pianist familiar to ESO audiences, joins in with a "fantastique" performance of Liszt's thrillingly macabre Totentanz.

| #7: 2010 Juneteenth Celebration | | |
On Saturday, June 12 from 11:30am-8:00pm the African American Coalition of Kane County, Inc. proudly presents the Juneteenth Celebration which will be held at the intersection of Kimball Street and Grove Avenue.
The event features live music by special guest Chase Wyl Biz, vendors, contests, a car show, a Kid Zone Area with free hot dogs and popcorn for children ages 3-11 from 12-2pm and an appearance by Miss Ironee Baldwin the 2009/2010 Queen! |
| #8: Celebrate Flag Day on Walton Island | | |
 Come celebrate Flag Day with Elgin Elks Lodge #737 at Walton Island on Monday, June 14 at 4pm.
The ceremony will include members of the Elks, the Ladies of the Elks, Boy Scouts, Elgin High School Band Members, and local dignitaries. The American Legion will perform a flag retirement burning and a 21-gun salute.

| #9: Elgin OPERA's Second Summer Music Festival | | |
Elgin OPERA's Second Summer Music Festival promises to be a Grand one! Over 70 singers will participate in eight different productions and thirteen performances from June 11 to July 11.

German Lieder Night Schubert, Schumann, Strauss & more Friday, June 11 - 7:30pm A French Evening Fauré, Debussy, Massenet and more Saturday, June 12 - 7:30pm All events and performances will be held at the Kimball Street Theatre, located on the first level of the new Rider Center, on the campus of Elgin Academy, 261 Dundee Avenue.

| #10: 4th of July Parade Grand Marshals Announced | | |
 The DNA is proud to announce that the Shabbona District, Three Fires Council of the Boy Scouts of America will be the Grand Marshals of the City of Elgin's 2010 Fourth of July Parade - Presented by Sherman Health, which steps off at 10:00 am at the corner of Slade and Douglas Avenue on Saturday, July 3. Roland Behling, an Eagle Scout with 75 years of participation and leadership service to Scouting, and Dick Barth, with 55 years of leadership service to the program, will both serve as honorary Grand Marshals riding in a convertible representing the Boy Scouts and their promotion of life-long skills and positive role modeling. In 2010, the Boy Scouts of America celebrates its 100th anniversary of providing programs for young people to build character, train them in responsible citizenship, and develop their personal fitness. In Elgin, the Boy Scouts of America are represented by Shabbona District, Three Fires Council. Shabbona serves some 2,900 youth across 55 units, relying on more than 800 dedicated adult volunteers to advance its mission. |
