WELCOME

lighthouse

Welcome to St. Raphael's by the Sea. We are an orthodox Anglican parish in the Gulf Atlantic Diocese of the Anglican Church of North America. We seek to know Christ and to make Christ known. Our worship services are a blend of traditional hymns and contemporary praise and worship songs. There is no need for prayer books or hymnals as our service is projected on the screen for your convenience. So just relax and worship the Lord with us. There are no strangers here, only friends we haven't yet met. Please stay afterwards for some refreshments and more importantly to make new friends. Looking forward to meeting you..

Dear Friends and Family,

We have been so blessed here at St. Raphael's by the Sea by your generous response to our First Anniversary Fund. Special thanks to all who have given above your regular offering to help us stay afloat. If you have not yet sent in your special gift of thanks to God for creating an orthodox Anglican presence on Fort Myers Beach, there is still time. While the wolves are no longer at the door, we can still hear them howling. So please do pray and then give as generously as you can to keep the ministry of St. Raphael's by the Sea not just barely making ends meet, but going forward as a vibrant presence for the Lord. All gifts are received with joy and gratitude for your support.

We are resolved to continue in our mission of knowing Christ and making Christ known. With this in mind, we held our first Movie Night last night at Roxie Smith's historic cottage. While munching on popcorn, we watched and discussed the film 'St. John in Exile' with Dean Jones portraying the Apostle John. The response was very positive. We are looking forward to having another Movie Night in October.

In October, we will be launching our first Alpha course. All members of the parish are invited to participate in Alpha. We are providing both a fall and a winter course to accommodate the seasonal and non-seasonal needs of our congregation. Alpha provides a way to reach the unchurched for Christ while encouraging Christian leadership from the laity. Alpha was founded in the United Kingdom in the Church of England and became successful under the leadership of Nicky Gumbel. Alpha provides a time of fellowship and small group discussions that enables all who attend to grow in Christ. Please plan on supporting this important program to help our members grow spiritually, while bringing others to know Christ for the first time.

As you can see, we are offering some exciting opportunities for all of us to grow in the Lord. We continue to live stream our Sunday morning worship services at 10am. My sermons are videotaped separately and can be seen on our parish website at www.saintraphaelsbythesea.org, our parish Facebook page, and on YouTube under Rev. Marcrum.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers and thanks again for your support. We are hoping to see some of you seasonals sooner rather than later. You are missed.

Blessings!

Pastor Alice+

Remembering 9-1-1

With the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 quickly approaching, we know that many of you will be observing this Day of Remembrance. Here on Fort Myers Beach, there will be a special service to honor the first responders and to receive an historical artifact of the World Trade Center from Ground Zero. This artifact is one of two pieces of 30 inch by 16-inch by 16-inch I-Beams, which will be the centerpiece of a memorial to be constructed later and installed at Fort Myers Beach Fire Station #33. At least eleven fire trucks will escort the article from the Fort Myers Day of Remembrance Service to Fire House Station #33; where a service sponsored by the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department will be held at 1pm on Sunday, September 11th. Fort Myers Beach Fire Chief Mike Becker will be the keynote speaker. Our rector, the Rev. Alice Marcrum, will be giving the Invocation and Benediction. Please join us in remembering the heroes of 9/11.

AJ Bassett Steps Up to the Vestry Miss Bassett

With the resignation of Sue Agony from the Vestry, we were left one member short of our desired number of representatives.  Miss Bassett gracously accepted the offered position and was welcomed to her initial meeting on August 24, 2011.  She is a very welcome member indeed!

Congratulations to Betty Goodacre for making the cover story for the 'Tropicalia' in the News-Press. In this article, Mrs. Goodacre is described as "the heart of Fort Myers Beach". She is certainly the heart of our parish, serving faithfully as the Altar Guild Directress. Our web master has kindly created a link to the full article for your convenience. Please check it out.

Dad

 Acting Up in Church

One Sunday in a Midwest City, a young child was "acting up" during the morning worship hour. The parents did their best to maintain some sense of order in the pew but were losing the battle.

Finally, the father picked the little fellow up and walked sternly up the aisle on his way out.

Just before reaching the safety of the foyer, the little one called loudly to the congregation, "Pray for me! Pray for me!"
