WELCOME
Welcome to St. Raphael's by the Sea. We are an orthodox Anglican parish in the Gulf Atlantic Diocese of the Anglican Church of North America. We seek to know Christ and to make Christ known. Our worship services are a blend of traditional hymns and contemporary praise and worship songs. There is no need for prayer books or hymnals as our service is projected on the screen for your convenience. So just relax and worship the Lord with us. There are no strangers here, only friends we haven't yet met. Please stay afterwards for some refreshments and more importantly to make new friends. Looking forward to meeting you..

Pastor Marcrum's Featured Article
Dear Friends and Family,
Hope you have stayed cool this summer. I've been told that it is hotter up north than it is down here in Southwest Florida. So if you want to have a nice Gulf breeze to cool you off, then come on down. We would love to see all of you!
We have been busy this summer on your behalf. We now have a live broadcast of the Sunday morning worship service. Just go to the parish's website at www.saintraphaelsbythesea.org and click on the arrow in the black box. Of course, since it is live, you can only see the live broadcast on Sunday mornings. Tune in for the Prelude at 9:50 am or wait until the service starts at 10 am. Some of you have already checked in and given us back your feedback. We thank you! Please pardon our dust as we are working out the glitches of this new form of outreach. Our A/V Guy, Jim Marcrum, is working on recording the services so you can watch them at your convenience. To make our live broadcast better, two new lights with stands to light up the altar area have been donated. A special thanks to A.J. Bassett, Betty Goodacre, and Roxie Smith for this gift. Also, thank you A/V Guy for your good shopping endeavor.
Don't have time in your busy schedule to watch the whole service? Then you are welcome to watch my sermons on video. The sermons are on a different camera and are being taped separately. They are located on the website under Leadership on my page.
For those of you who weren't here for the Fourth of July weekend, we had another first! We Skyped a baptism service to accommodate the godparents, who were unable to fly down from Cleveland, Ohio. Maggie and Teddi Marcrum graciously stepped up as godmothers to help get Matthew Alexander Bosch baptized. While the godparents, Jim and Laura Maki answered the questions for the baptism via Skype! You can see a video of the sacrament on the parish website.
In our last newsletter, we let you know about the Beach Theatre re-opening. Since then, the building has been bought. The new owner wants both the Beach Theatre and St. Raphael's by the Sea to remain. Since properties both on and off the island are too expensive for us to rent, this is good news for us. Until we have our own building, we are blessed to be here.
The month of August is a special month for St. Raphael's by the Sea. August 7th marks our first year as a parish! We will be having a special reception to celebrate. To ensure another year of ministry, we are asking all of our members and friends to donate a Special Anniversary Offering. You can donate through the website e-giving, mail us your donation, or bring it with you to the Anniversary Service, which will be on Sunday, August 7th. Thank you in advance for your generous support.
We are here To Know Christ and to Make Christ Known! Please join with us in sharing the Good News. Your support is deeply appreciated.
Blessings!
Pastor Alice+

Highlights From Bishop Duncan's Address
Our God has been so abundantly good to us - despite all the challenges we have faced - that we are profoundly aware of His love for us and His faithfulness to us. My task in this annual State of the Church Address is to rehearse some of what has happened, especially in this last year, and to remind us of how God's hand of blessing has been so obviously upon this movement to rebuild a biblical, missionary and united Anglicanism in North America. Two years ago we were 706 congregations. The annual parochial and diocesan reports for 2010 - the first year for which we have a system of statistical reporting in place (another provincial milestone) - identify 952 congregations as part of the dioceses of the Anglican Church in North America and its ministry partners. Statistically this represents a 34 percent growth in congregations at the end of the first 18 months of Church life......We can point to nearly 150 new plants since June 24th, 2009. I could speak of our amazing success at raising the funds we have needed, about those who have invested in us and about the growing commitment to the tithe from individuals, congregations, and dioceses......... I will just share one final detail. It is a small one, and hidden in the statistical reports. According to the data submitted in the Annual Parochial Reports there were, in the year 2010, 987 baptisms of adults over thirty, 424 baptisms of young people aged sixteen to thirty, and 1647 baptisms of children in the ACNA dioceses, not including the congregations of our Ministry Partners. What is so stunning about this data is that the number of baptisms of those 16 and older is almost equal to the number of children baptized. What this says is that we are reaching adolescents and adults who have never known Christ, never been part of a church. This is to reach North America with the transforming love of Jesus Christ, one sign among many that something quite extraordinary is unfolding. To God be the Glory! Given by the Most Reverend Robert Duncan, Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Church in North America, on 21 June A.D. 2011, at Long Beach, California. The entire address can be found on the ACNA website by clicking on this link. |

 Thank You, Miss Sue!
We are sad to inform you that Sue Egony has resigned from the Vestry and left St. Raphael's by the Sea Anglican Church to return to her Roman Catholic roots. Sue's presence will be greatly missed. We are grateful to Sue for all the hard work and service she has given to our parish from heading up our bake sales, helping at our rummage sale, and doing the Coffee Hour. As a member of the Daughters of the King, Sue has served faithfully as an intercessor for our parish and initiated our card ministry. Sue has also helped usher for our worship services. This has not been a quick decision for Sue, having come to her decision after much prayer. She believes the Lord wants her to return to her spiritual roots. Although we will miss her beautiful smile and encouraging words, we wish Sue the best as she continues her journey with our Lord. May our spiritual paths cross again.

| Rt. Rev. Neil Lebhar | Lettter from our Bishop
Dear Diocesan family,
First of all, let me thank you for your prayers, kind words and notes following the loss of my mother. I have full confidence that it is indeed better to be home with the Lord, and while I shall miss her, I am glad for her sake that she is at home. Several clergy and lay leaders have lost ones as well, and our hearts go out to them all.
The Lord is blessing us in the diocese in many ways. Our conference on Church Planting went very well, and I encourage you to listen to the podcasts on our website. The confirmations and ordinations this month and last are signs of the Lord continuing to provide leaders, ordained and lay, as we move forward.I rejoice that church plants are in seminal stages in several places and ask you to pray for them to bear fruit for the Kingdom.
At the same time, many of our congregations are in tight places right now in various ways. Our hearts go out to the parishioners at Good Samaritan who had their air conditioners stolen last week. That kind of complication seems so frustrating, although I know the members are handling it well.
And there are other trials that are more hidden but also demoralizing for ministries as well. Even on good weeks most of us feel under the gun, and of course we do have an Enemy who wants to destroy us.
I have been encouraged by re-reading the story of Joseph and his brothers this week. I find it hard to comprehend Joseph's persevering faith in the midst of injustice, abandonment, and years of lonely imprisonment. His trusted that while his brothers' rejection of him was wrong, it was somehow something God used to further God's Kingdom purposes. Genesis 50:20 contains a remarkable declaration of Joseph to his brothers,"You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people." (NLT)
The Lord not only can bring good out of evil, it is one of his primary ways of working. May we trust in him despite the trials, asking that we would remain faithful no matter what lies ahead. May the Lord enable us to "give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." (I Thessalonians 5:18, NIV)
In the Messiah, +Neil The Rt. Rev. Neil G. Lebhar . ___________________________________________________________________________ |
Men in Heaven - Who is the Head of the Household? At the end of the age when all the believers were standing in line waiting to get into heaven, God appeared and said, "I want all the men to form two lines. One line will be for the men who were the true heads of their households. The other will be for the men who were dominated by their wives." God continued, "I want all the women to report to St. Peter." The women left and the men formed two lines. The line of men who were dominated by their wives was seemingly unending. The line of men who were the true head of their household had one man in it. God said to the first line, "You men ought to be ashamed or yourselves. I appointed you to be the heads of your households and you were disobedient and have not fulfilled your purpose. Of all of you, there is only one man who obeyed me. Learn from him." Then God turned to the lone man and asked, "How did you come to be in this line?" The man replied, "My wife told me to stand here." ____________________________________________________________________________ |
