All Are Welcome

rose Dear Friends,

The summer is here and our island life has slowed down, but we at St. Raphael's are still busy doing the Lord's work, which is why I am writing to you. Although the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion are going through a time of uncertainty, we here at St. Raphael's want you to know that no matter what decisions are made in the future concerning the relationship or lack of relationship between the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion, St. Raphael's will remain open to all.

Many of you call St. Raphael's your second home. We want to assure you that whether you are Anglican, Episcopal, Lutheran, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, orthodox, revisionist or whatever tradition you follow our doors remain open to you. Our gift from the Holy Spirit is the gift of hospitality to all peoples. So no matter what the Anglican and Episcopal leaders decide to do, we here at St. Raphael's want you to know that each and everyone of you are accepted as members of our spiritual family. As members of the Body of Christ, we refuse to shut our doors to other parts of Christ's Body.

Our greatest desire is to continue to share the love of God with all. Our altar will remain open to all who have been baptized into Christ. We believe that we are all sinners saved by the grace of God. At the foot of the cross of Christ, all who seek His redemption and forgiveness share common ground. Not one of us can declare with integrity that we are greater than the other or more special in God's sight.

So please, let us be your oasis of God's love in the midst of these uncertain times. Please know that all in Christ are welcome to share in the ministry and joy of the Lord. It is our hope that you will continue to come to Fort Myers Beach and be refreshed both physically and spiritually. As our Episcopal sign says, "All are welcome."

In His Love,

The Reverend Alice Marcrum, Rector

St. Raphael's Secret Gardeners

For those of you who are unaware about our secret gardeners, the secret is out! Bonnie Beaulieu, A.J. Basset and her nephew Keith Amos are our secret gardeners who give freely of their time and energy to help make the gardens of St. Raphael's so beautiful. Noticed those lovely potted flowers at the front door of the Nave and also by the Sacristy door? Well, Bonnie is the one to thank for their presence. She also removes weeds, which is a year round task here in sunny Florida. A. J. and Keith are the ones who trim the hedges and remove the brush. This is a job that keeps them busy especially now that rainy season has arrived. So next time you are admiring our beautiful fauna and flora, remember to thank the secret (not so secret now!) gardeners for their loving efforts.

Home Missionary Team

We would like to thank the congregation for their generous donations to the migrant soup kitchen in Immokolee. We work there twice a month and are in need of workers for the 2nd Friday and 3rd Monday of each month during the summer. As always we are in need of clothing, mops, dishes, pails, ect. If interested in donating, a Sams gift certificate would be ideal, made out to Guadeloupe Center. All clothing goes to the needy; not the thrift store. God bless you and the brothers and sisters in Immokolee. If interested in working, please contact Roger Swanson at (239) 410-4809.

Joke of the Month  "Story of Elijah"

The Sunday school teacher was carefully explaining the story of Elijah the Prophet and the false prophets of Baal. She explained how Elijah built the altar, put wood upon it, cut the steer in pieces, and laid it upon the altar. And then, Elijah commanded the People of God to fill four barrels of water and pour it over the altar. He had them do this four times. "Now, said the teacher, "can anyone in the class tell me why the Lord would have Elijah pour water over the steer on the altar?" A little girl in the back of the room started waving her hand, "I know! I know!" she said, "To make the gravy!"
