"This is a national competition, and
voting ends on Sept. 15," explained Claudia Johnson, Executive Director of the Sgt. York Patriotic Foundation, the nonprofit organization heading up preservation efforts on the 1920s-era educational facility built by World War I hero Sgt. Alvin C. York.
The building has been stabilized, but millions of dollars are needed for the adaptive reuse project that would return the building to a multipurpose educational facility.
"If we get the most votes, we win $25,000 to help with our restoration project," Johnson explained, adding that there is no obligation at all but to vote online by following the link below. "The voting page (address provided below) offers the chance to invite others to vote as well. Please share this. We need all the support we can get."
Johnson said she's sharing the link on social media sites and asking each of her contacts to vote, then share. Only one vote per email address will be counted.
"I believe we can get enough votes to win this," she said. "This is one type of funding that is given solely because individuals take the time to make one click of the finger." For more information about the York Institute restoration project and to cast a vote, visit
