Fall in Love with the Cumberland Plateau!
...Big South Fork, Dale Hollow Lake, & Fall Creek Falls
Lakes, Trails, Waterfalls, History, Events, & More! | September 2010 |
Greetings!
Sept. 11th - lots of prizes! |
It's hard to believe that another summer has come and gone. But there is still plenty of time to take in so much that the BSF, DHL, & FCF regions have to offer. Not only are there all the natural "assets", but there are so many festivals and events coming up in the next few weeks!
We would like to highlight a couple of the longtime favorites of the region here. One is the 28th Annual Rolley Hole Marble Festival - also known as "The Super Bowl of Marbles" - at Standing Stone State Park has received national recognition from such sources as the Charles Kuralt-CBS, ESPN, ABC Evening News, Sports Illistrated, Smithsonian Institution, CNN, National Geographic, Southern Living, and many others. Lots of marble everything, great BBQ, and some excellent bluegrass music. Admission is FREE! The other is the 32nd Annual Mountaineer Folk Festival at Fall Creek Falls State Park September 10-12. It's a jam packed weekend of traditional mountain music, handmade crafts, pioneer skills demonstrations, country cooking, and more. Admission here is free as well.
Another free event that might be of interest to those considering building a log home will be held on Sept. 25th. Honest Abe Log Homes will be holding a Log Raising at their National Headquarters Office in Moss, TN. Reservations are required. The event is held indoors and includes a tour of their manufacturing facility. The event will let you see first hand how their homes are built from the ground up. Questions are encouraged. Call for your reservations: 800-231-3695. The demonstration starts at 9:00AM.
These aren't the only major and/or FREE events going on in the coming weeks. Below you will find more festivals and events throughout all 3 regions. Some are free, others charge a small fee, please check their information for details. There is sure to be lots of great food, music, and fun for all ages. It's also a great time to visit our websites (linked below) to plan a special fall getaway to take in the gorgeous fall blanket expected this year. There are already hints at the changing season/colors. The dogwood and a few other species are already beginning to show signs of the coming colorful finery.
(Don't forget to check out the discount coupons at the end of this e-newsletter! Great deals on boating and lodging!)

As in the past, The Collins River Golf Course will host the tournament. Each year the tournament, which is the vehicle for raising scholarship money in memory of educator Troy Jones, has seen significant growth. Mr. Jones, who served in various schools as a coach, teacher and principal, was an avid golfer. After his death, his family wanted to provide something to the community whereby their father and husband could be remembered and to provide pleasure to WarrenCounty's people. The tournament is the outgrowth of that dream.
